Do you believe people change?
Posted 9/12/16 , edited 9/12/16
I looked for a similar topic and found nothing in all honesty but if there is I'm sorry for a duplicate and please delete this one.

Anyway as the title says do you believe people change? and have you changed and if so was it a positive or a negative change? (don't have to share experiences if you don't want to in all honesty)

Example: you know someone that was extremely rude and could care less and a few months later or a year later the same person is extremely nice kind and caring?

No, I don't believe people change significantly over the course of their lifetime. Who we are , truly are is something set in stone . Who we pretend to be or how we lie to ourselves can be a changing and fluid thing but beyond the mask we are unchanged.

People only seem to change because they change how they act, the inside stays pretty much the same.

Yes, but only if the will power is forced out by some sort of epiphany. The hard headed always have to feel it to believe it.

Yea, people can change, people do change, constantly. It might not be huge changes, but changes seem constant. If you're wondering if people can go through huge changes, then yes. I'm a lot different than how I was a few years back. In fact, some drama that happened a couple days ago showed that to me.

I disagree, I've seen some pretty big changes, I've gone through some myself tbh. I believe if we do go through some huge changes we'll still have the urge to go back to how we were, but we don't have to. A lot of people do and will lie/pretend to be someone else though, but you can usually see through those people.

I swear anyone who thinks people can't change didn't experience enough.

Maybe we don't change but over time more and more of your 'true nature' comes through whatever persona you are trying to use

I do not feel like I have changed much since I was 12 years old however every day I come more and more out of my shell so I might appear different to other people

Yes. More often through changing environment and circumstances but also through will driven action. Thinking about changing, wanting to change or anything else abstract wont do anything. Also people can't change other people, only themselves and the environment.

This makes me recall a quote I read (Einstein, I believe):

Men marry women with the hope that they'll never change. Women marry men with the hope that they will. Invariably, they are both disappointed.
