Don't be sad! Everyone here knows your sadness. We might not fully understand it, but we have felt it!

One day Obasan went to the market to buy some bread.

Along the way she came across a small squirrel on the side of the road that had become stuck under a fallen branch. Feeling sorry for the small squirrel, she lifted the branch and freed him.

Continuing on, she next came across a small rabbit who had lost it's way. Taking pity on the rabbit, she offered to accompany it until it recognized it's surroundings. Together Obasan and the rabbit continued to the market.

Almost there, the pair came upon a fox, who generously offered to take the rabbit to it's burrow. Knowing the wily nature of foxes, Obasan and the rabbit declined. Incensed, the fox warned, "Do not trust humans, they are more devious than foxes!" Neither paid him mind and continued into town.

Coming into town, a merchant spied the rabbit, thinking to himself, "That plump young rabbit would be good in my stewpot!" And so when the pair came back from buying bread, he had hatched a plan.

"Obasan!" He called. "I recognize that rabbit you travel with, it stole vegetables from my garden not two nights ago!" Shocked, the pair did not know what to say.

At this point a friend of the squirrel Obasan had helped earlier, the raven, overheard this exchange. The raven puffed out his chest at the farmer's accusations, knowing neither Obasan nor the rabbit to be thieves. Whenever the farmer would open his mouth, the raven would cry, "Liar!"

This exchange went on between the farmer and the raven for quite some time, much to the amusement of the gathering villagers. Finally, the village elder told the foolish farmer to let Obasan and the rabbit go, as he had no proof of the rabbit's wrong doing.

Shame turned to anger, and the furious farmer took off down the road after the departing Obasan and rabbit. Seeing the farmer so angry, the two rushed down the road in a fright. The clamor caught the attention of the fox, who thought he now had a chance to snag himself a meal.

And so the four ran down the road, coming to a narrow bridge. Obasan, worried that the little rabbit might fall into the river, dropped her bread and scooped him up into her arms and ran across.

On their heels, the fox and farmer had no such concerns for one another, and tripped each other up on the narrow path. The fox and the farmer both fell into the river. The pair soon had their ire turned towards each other for the lose of the prize rabbit.

Back home, the exhausted Obasan and rabbit shared what little she still had in her cupboards. Outside, the pair heard the raven and squirrel calling. The squirrel had brought some berries to the pair and the raven had retrieved the bread. And so the group shared their meal, and lived happily ever after.

There once was an obasan who was sad.
She got on CR to get glad.
She made up a thread,
To sleep happy in bed,
And the responses were not halfway bad.
