I can get startled or spooked when I least expect it, like if I'm in silence and a loud bang of some sort happens to occur.

One time I was stabbed in the back of the leg by some stupid guy, and I least expected it, however I didn't scream/get startled/get spooked. I remember feeling a sharp agonizing pain that confused me, so I turn around in reflex to yank the thing out of my leg while cursing him out.

This idiot told me he wanted to see my reaction, and was hoping I would scream and cry in fear.

I am, however, more aware of my surroundings and pretty much assume 50% of the time something or someone is out to scare me, so I prepare myself for any sudden loud noises or movements.

Isn't that more of a reaction/reflex rather than being scared? Scared is more like freezing up or shaking when facing something, like seeing a pretty gruesome motor vehicle crash or something.

Isn't being scared, spooked, or startled a reaction to something? OP did include being startled or spooked.

Fear is something dealt with after the fact when faced with true danger.

I can afford to be afraid of something after things calm down, not while the @#^! is hitting the fan.

Reminds me of the old John Wayne quote "Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway." I normally panic after a really bad call I can't during the middle of it that's how people get killed.

I guess it sort of is. I just find that scared is more of a word to describe an emotion and startled being the reflex. I missed the OP cause I roll like that.

It's cool. Being scared, startled and spooked are pretty much in the gray area of emotion, reaction, and reflex. I guess it's all open for interpretation.

Hmm... I dunno. It could be interpretation, but isn't being startled more along the lines of like being alarmed? It's much more sudden whereas being scared can be long term and gives a different reaction like shaking. Bah, I'm being too picky.

I get startled fo' sho'. I'm scared of the unknown and heights (like high heights not ladders or trees.) I get spooked by roaches cause they're nasty.

I'm someone who scares easily with loud noises, sudden movements. Somehow I have no problem with horror games, manga, shows so it's really weird.

I get a fright when there's a sudden loud noise or when someone appears out of the blue. I'm also deathly afraid of roaches, especially ones that can fly.

I don't like venomous snakes but will deal with the issue at hand if I have to. My fears are a little more vague. I don't get scared in the traditional sense of the word. Halloween haunted houses do nothing for me. Spiders, snakes, etc don't phase me. Being approached by a group of people in a dark alley doesn't make me break a sweat but in all honesty I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of life and more importantly I'm extremely scared of death. The little things don't bother me. Armed gunmen, pffffttt. The thought of waking up tomorrow and not being the real me though scares me. Some days I'm just not myself. Death bothers me and yet I've been so reckless and careless with my life so many times. It's a bit ironic and sad I guess. Most of my fears are internal and don't involve normal things that people are afraid of: like dangerous situations. I guess I'm afraid to live life even though I work so hard at it. On a bright note my overwhelming fear of death has gotten me through some really dark episodes so maybe there's a good reason I have this irrational fear? It's definitely saved my life a time or two.

I don't get properly scared very easily, I jump at jump scares but they don't actually scare me. I'd say I'm quite difficult to scare

I dunno..I think just seeing a coconut crab makes everything else suddenly seem harmless or cute in comparison.
