Just goes to show that if you kill the golden goose, eventually you're going to get cyborg job assassins.

5.1 million is just the tip of the iceberg.

Autonomous trucks alone will kill more jobs than that by an order of magnitude.

Heard about that. I'm not sure killing 5.1 million people is what they're aiming for, but that may be what they get.

Uber has explicitly stated they plan on replacing all drivers with autonomous vehicles. They started testing today in Pittsburgh, with the cars carrying real passengers.

Uber is also focusing on developing autonomous commercial trucks.

Uber had 248,848 drivers in the U.S. alone as of January, 2015

Not entirely clear at this time as to a 'party'. I would think both Democrats and Republicans for different demographics.

https://techcrunch.com/2015/03/14/anti-robot-protest-held-at-sxsw/ (later suggested to be a marketing ploy)
There's apparently something called the Anti-Robot Militia, but it might be a joke as they've also shown up in Star Citizen.

So there's not a whole lot that I can find that isn't 1) suspicious in origin, or 2) mildly psychotic. So it might still be pretty much nothing at this point until it more directly affects people who aren't Californians, since everything is illegal in the state of California.

Uber is doing a lot of things. In either case, the problem will be with 'real' world, as Google has found out. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_self-driving_car). Scale that up to 80,000 pounds, and there's room for a lot of shenanigans. Also, truck drivers have responsibilities beyond simply operating the vehicle, but who am I to say what Uber can and cannot do.

Is doing. The cars are on the road carrying passengers as of today. A Chinese company beat them to the punch by several weeks in Shanghai.

Give it twenty years and commercial drivers will be the exception. Why hire a human when the computer is safer, cheaper, and can drive 24/7.

Shopping carts that move on their own and are part of a Mall entity. Someone hasn't read Reaper Man. Oh dear, this isn't going to end well.
