We've got a slew of new titles hitting our library, including updates from some of our new catalog titles from Funimation, so check out all of the information below!

First off, The classic OVA The Galaxy Railways: A Letter from the Abandoned Planet comes to Crunchyroll members in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, starting TODAY at 4pm Pacific Time!

In the distant future, the planets are now connected with a massive galactic railway system. The Galaxy Express 999 has crash landed on a mysterious planet. On board are The Conductor, Killian, Maetel, and Tetsuro, a ten year-old street urchin with a heart of gold. Now it’s up to the SDF Sirius Platoon to rescue them before the Herise Time Mystery—a rift in the deep axis of time and space—repeats.

Next up, we've got really exciting news as all 12 episodes of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash are now available for Crunchyroll members in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark!

From A-1 Pictures, the studio behind Fairy Tail and Sword Art Online: When Haruhiro awakens, he’s in the dark surrounded by people who have no memory of where they came from or how they got there. As the darkness fades, a fantastic new world called “Grimgar” appears before them and their adventure begins—but first, they’ll have to choose their guild, class, and special abilities.

One of my personal favorite Urobuchi shows ever, season 1 of PSYCHO-PASS is now available for Crunchyroll members in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa!

In the future, thinking about a crime makes you guilty, and justice is dispensed from the barrel of a gun. Detectives work in teams made up of Enforcers and Inspectors. Enforcers take out the bad guys, and Inspectors make sure their partners don’t cross the line. The equalizer in the war on thugs is the Dominator, a weapon that can tell when citizens are about to turn criminal.

Is it just me, or have you recently been neglecting your customers that aren't from US, Canada, UK, or Ireland?

I feel like I've been downloading a lot of fansubs for Crunchyroll shows lately.

Funimation don't really license for many other countries. As such titles porting over there from their currently licensed shows won't be worldwide - not much CR can do about that (they were not obviously involved in those licensing agreements).

Does anyone know if I can watch the Galaxy Railways thing without any prior understanding of the Galaxy Express 999 universe? This looks pretty good but I can't really be bothered to watch all of the various other related series beforehand...

Funimation has had those plans in the works for a long time now. The partnership deal has nothing to do with updating either site, player, or apps, only the content and how it is handled.

I'd not just you ... a lot of Latin American and continental European members have remarked that the new catalog titles from Funimation do not ever go beyond "English Language Countries & Northern Europe" ... and often with gaps in that ... because Funimation never had a reason to ask for more.

Now, of course it has nothing to do with "neglecting" anybody. It just the way it has always been for catalog titles. Rights for catalog titles rarely come from someone holding "Worldwide outside Asia" rights.

It's the new simulcasts that Funimation licenses with dubs on Crunchyroll where we can hope to see broader region rights coming along over the coming year. The only way to do that is to work deals like these, which is why deals like these have normally been to the benefit of viewers outside of North America over the longer term.

But it's only the series that Funimation has not yet licensed which will see that effect. The first wave of existing simulcasts and existing catalog titles that show up won't benefit from that.

They fixed the color palette on Psycho-Pass, it's way different than Funi's copy; literally the difference between night and day, especially in dark scenes. In episode one right near the end (~3-4 mins left), when Kogami is just starting to raise his weapon to shoot the bloodied victim, just before Tsugumi calls out his name, in Funi's copy you can hardly even see that there is a person on the ground. In CR's copy, you can see that her slip is pink and that there are red gas cans behind her. It's still dark, but the details are much more visible.
