Yeah, can't help noticing that we're getting all these "sightings" at the same time as fan sites have been gushing about who's going to follow in Tim Curry's footsteps for the Stephen King "It" remake, and plastering Curry's photos over the geek sites for Millennial nostalgia...
One state, possible, two or three, I suspect fad urban-legend. Lotta floating going on down here.

Actually, there are at least six states that I'm aware of where similar things are happening: N & S Carolina, Connecticut, Missouri, Kentucky, and Alabama.

I have heard the theory that it's all a run-up to that movie, but for crying out loud, making threats against people's lives and luring children is going too far!

Are you saying that only the lives of career criminals who are shot by cops while resisting arrest matter? Innocent clowns across America are being persecuted.

On Tuesday, the White House said law enforcement takes creepy clowns seriously. And on Monday, a top NYPD official warned people not to freak out over creepy clown sightings.

A man dressed as a clown was trying to abducted her 1-year-old daughter from a Concord bus stop Wednesday afternoon.

“I thought he was about to get on the bus,” she told KPIX 5. “We were sitting there. He was playing with her. I thought he was going to kiss her hand. Instead, he pulled her arm literally and I pulled her arm back and I kicked him.”

I've heard some fans tinfoil-hatting that the first sightings were started by the remake producers for publicity, but that's a little improbable:
Little kids filed the first reports, and they tend to follow trends because they heard someone else did. This seems to be the new "Daycare Center Molestation" of the 10's.

And now we've got copycat teens who've never watched 90's TV miniseries, don't get the joke, and think "clown sightings" are some kind of terrorist threat--
One girl was suspended for threatening that "a clown was going to come and shoot" her mean classmates.

(Kids, if you're going to leech onto it, we're not going to ask to you to read a book, but the 90's version's on disk, RENT it, at least you'll know what you're urban-fadding about?)

I've seen this story before

It's the latest fad/hoax in the states. People dressing up like clowns, standing near the woods waving bags of candy at children. Many sighting have been reported in North and South Carolina. I'll dig up the other articles tonight if I get a chance. It's really catching on and scaring the FakeBook generation parents.

This is a good way to get yourself shot here in America. Honestly, just let natural selection run its course.
