Great guidance counselors: Ones that could effectively inform students of majors, student loans/managing finances, and prospective career paths.

Yeah, when I started college many years ago I thought I could trust my adviser with my major, but she kept telling me to take stupid classes and I ended up wasting my entire first year trusting her thinking I was doing my general education. Never trust advisers, they are paid by the University to make the University the most money possible even if that means turning your 4 year degree into a 5 or 6 year degree. I would like to see advisers that were not paid by the University. After doing 2 semesters of classes she told me put me on my path for my major, I got sick of her crap and went to a senior in my major and asked him to tell me what classes he took and I followed all of those. I ended up having to start over from scratch (except the English and History classes I took for my general education requirement). I have $12,000 student loan debt added to my student loan bill that I feel so stupid for trusting an adviser to lead me correctly. I'm sure not all advisers are like her, but I'm sure most are and probably get bonuses to funnel students into classes that don't have enough enrollment to fill them up. You are required to have an adviser where I went, but I changed my adviser after my first year and basically went to them and said "I am taking these classes, register me for them and I am done, see you next semester."

Free coffee with all morning lectures. You won't believe how many key courses are held at 8:00 AM with no alternative times.

3D graph paper, or graph paper that could show change over time. I really wanted something like that during my high school physics class.

Later I learned that you can do something similar with computer software - but I would have loved a sort of "holographic calculator" where you could punch in a parametric equation or something like that and get a 3D image instead of just looking at a screen. Maybe that will actually be possible now with VR taking off.

----------------

This is somewhat unrelated, but that got me thinking - VR could have some pretty interesting applications for CAD software.

Hey I've thought about this kind of thing a lot. I am kind of surprised to see someone else say it. I think that would be great.

But, the learning experience is fun. Answering teacher questions is fun.

Actually I've heard of a few businesses that started giving out free coffee, with one of those cup of coffee machines at a time, that has several flavors to select from. Productivity increased by 50% on average. Amazing what some small things can do, it turned out to be a good investment. It doesn't work for every work environment but in a school environment it'd probably work pretty good.
