Should children be allowed to select what food to eat or be made to eat what their parents want them to eat?

Depends how old they are

You eat what you are served.

A bit of both depending on the context

I take it you detest children. What's with all the questions about what rights children "should" be allowed?

Some children will benefit from parents being firm and introducing a healthy variety of food. Others don't for various reasons some which may be health related.

They should be introduced to different tastes and textures early on and allowed to explore what they like. If they hate food in one form they may enjoy it in another.

But they shouldn't be allowed to control meal time and you have to consider their health as well.

And they shouldn't be forced to clear the plate if they already feel full.

As for older children if they really don't want it they can always make something else. I would refuse to eat curry/chilli and would have toast instead.

Depends on the child and the situation. My son's autistic. You try getting the little sod to eat something he's not keen on.

i think a child should eat what he's been given. i was extremely picky as a child, definitely didn't eat most of what my mom cooked bc she cooked only healthy food, but i made it through fine and now i love healthy stuff haha. not to say that will happen to any child though

autistic children or children with allergies are another ballgame though. im just talking "regular" or whatever kids

You don't like children do you?

They should be able to have a say in what they want to eat but it's up to the adult to make sure they're getting nutritious meals.

That's how I was taught, and am I ever glad my parents taught me that way. Kept me from turning into an entitled piece of crap later in life.

Bit of both. Children should be exposed to new things and eat a healthy diet, without being forced to eat what they can't stand.

Growing up my family didn't have a lot of money so 9 times out of 10 we ate the same thing. 1 tortilla and a side of beans, that was it.
So imo eat what your parents give you, I didn't Bitch about food when that was all we had.

Serve them what they like but also add new stuff to the mix. Most kids really hate stuff that's bitter by nature, since most natural poisions taste bitter

Or just beat them, the choice is really up to you.
