Post Reply Does anyone hate the idea of Crunchyroll adding dubs?

With English being the only language I speak, I prefer the dubs. I can focus less on reading and more on enjoying the visual experience, plus, I enjoy eating snacks during episodes, so if I look away for a quick second to grab a drink or dip a chip, I miss some of the subtitles

I have no issue with dubs, the more the merrier that way I can recommend more shows to potential newcomers on a single website.

Dub is better when I put something on for kids, but I watch sub on my own time. If they're adding for dub stuff though, I don't see why the sub doesn't come with it... it looks like way more effort to dub something than to sub it...

I just like having the option of both.

Eh...depends. I love some dub actors to death.

Also, sometimes I just put things on in the background while I am doing homework or something and I prefer the dubs for that because then I can still hear what's going on.

I hate the idea that Crunchyroll doesn't have more dubs. For those that saying that most English dubs are horrid and so many voices sound the same, the exact same thing applies to the Japanese versions. Also, have you seen most English dubs? Unless you have literally seen all of the hundreds (perhaps 1000+) of non-porno anime official English dubs (starting from the 1st English dub to present)*, you can't realistically make that assumption.

*I include Hong Kong, Malaysian, and Singapore English dubs

I don't really care if websites have dubs, as long as they have the subs too. I don't like watching dubs because it's the same handful of voice actors all the time and it's rare that they have new ones. Hell, a lot of the same people have been voice acting for decades. You just don't get enough new blood in there to make it worthwhile, and you also have to deal with the fact that they don't care what the original audio sounds like (that's been worked on like hell to get it just absolutely perfect). They're always wanting to get their own damn take on it, and that's unfair to the original content. I don't like that kind of thinking in the industry, I think it's poisonous.

But I understand that some people like dubs and that's perfectly fine. They can go enjoy them and I'll sit here and watch subs, with reactions and tone the way it's supposed to be.

I like Subs or Japanese dubs..... BUT Some English dubs are awesome.

(it's all dubbed unless it's live....)

I'll take The English dub over the Japanese dub of Cowboy Bebop any time.

That is what voice acting is about, getting the finished product right.

Crunchyroll having English dubs is good . . . more people will watch....

I personally don't care. I don't like them, find that the VA's often sound bored and uncaring. Sometimes I see a voice as a gross mismatch. But there are people who like it more, or can't read subtitles quickly enough to keep up. Those people still deserve a dub as much as anyone else deserves a sub. (Also...any time I hear Todd Haberkorn's voice, I struggle to continue. Going back to "gross mismatches," it's usually him I attribute this to)

No, seriously, I get the feeling that some people hate it with a passion. Because a majority hates dubs because either the terrible voice acting or because it's cool to hate America and praise Japan. I understand the voice acting part because some dubs are terrible not all just some. But hating dubs because America sucks and Japan is better is kinda sad and pathetic. I'm glad there is a minority but the majority just overshadows them.

What do you think dub haters and lovers?

Enjoy!!!

PS: I typed this on my phone. The last thread was messed up so I got it closed. Sorry.

Good news, Crunchyroll won't have dubbed anime anymore soon. Crunchyroll will be where you get subtitled anime, and Funimation will be where you get dubbed anime. The two companies came to an agreement that they will not compete for the same viewers and instead focus on their strengths. Crunchyroll's strengths is getting us subtitled content quickly, Funimation's strengths is getting us dubbed content quickly and DVD/Blu-Rays (which will contain Crunchyroll subtitles if you choose Japanese audio or Funimation's audio if you go with English audio).

I have no real preferance on dubs or subs. I usualy just go with however I originaly watched it. Bleach is an exception, I don't like the dub even though I first watched it on AdultSwim.
