Post Reply Does anyone hate the idea of Crunchyroll adding dubs?

If they're just adding them (which appears to be the case) and not replacing subbed shows then I couldn't careless. I'll never watch them, but if others want to, more power to them.

I don't think there is a problem with dubs. I highly doubt any of us were watching foreign anime at 5 years old in it's original language format at the very least. (I remember watching Sailor Moon in English first, Japanese didn't come until I was in high school). So at one point as kids we have all idolized our own respective countries' versions of anime/ cartoons. With that being said, as I got older and discovered the world beyond English dubs, I definitely thought that English dubs compared to Japanese dubs weren't good at all. I think they feel too over-animated and forced, whereas being in their created language with subs felt more genuine. Of course, I think American anime has some real big hitters like Family Guy ( Or really anything Seth McFarlane creates. He is a comedic genius.), and I have seen it in Spanish dub and I didn't find it nearly as funny in the English dub. Point is, I think each creation in its own original dub has something more that another dub cannot necessarily give it, but then, that is just my opinion.

Wait, isn't Funimation doing the dubbing while CR's licensing them....or something.

I love the addition of dub's, it makes Crunchyroll a FAR AND AWAY superior service to show friends of mine who are into anime, but not in enough to watch sub's.

I'm happy to watch dubs if they're available. It'll be interesting to see how it actually shakes out, although I suspect Funi = Dub and CR = Sub, as some people have suggested, is the most likely outcome.

Not at all.

They should add it. Sometimes I'd rather listen to bad voice acting when I'm streaming it on my phone while traveling, I hate reading the small font on a phone.

I absolutely despise watching dubs.....but more choices are always a good thing. I don't mind them adding dubs in fact I think they should add more of them. I have my reasons for preferring subs. I just hate when they lose so much in the translation plus most of the time the Japanese voice actors are vastly superior especially the females. They sound so cute compared to English voice actors. They've made voice acting into an art form and actually have schools dedicated to it. We're just simply behind the curve is all. RWBY did a great job though and I doubt I'd ever want to watch it any other way. Probably because I'm already used to it and it's one of the few shows I would happily choose dubs over subs.

Even though I don't watch dubs I can see their draw. It would be nice to be able to watch an anime while I'm doing other things around the house which I can't do because I only watch subs so dubs do have their advantages. I really don't get why some people would prefer them never to do dubs. I just fail to see how more choices can be a bad thing. I don't care how someone else watches anime. I'm just happy that they're enjoying it.

This.

Can't stand watching dubs with how godawful, flat and lifeless the English-speaking voiceactors are.

Mostly, I like the idea of having dubs because one of my friends is very into anime, but he has a learning disability, and reading fast enough to keep up with a sub is incredibly difficult for him. So if they make more dubs, especially for a lot of the titles that never come to US broadcast otherwise, I'm most certainly not going to complain about it.

I'v always been a fan of the Japanese voice/language; so for me, subtitles have always been my preference. That said, I have nothing against good dubs (Studio Ghibli fits this bill well), but for me the problem is there are wayyyyyyy too many mediocre/bad dubs out there. I think more often than not dubbers tend to come of as goofy or worse (emotionless) and that's where the main problem for me lies. I have nothing against fans of dubs or the Cunchyroll inclusion of dubs at all. I think it's a good thing to offer fans a choice of their viewing preferences.

I can't bear dubs myself, but as long as they are not mixed in with the subs. Like in the basement of CR with the other mushrooms.

Do I hate the idea of CR adding more services to cater to an audience who prefer it, over what they currently offer? Can't say I do.
