Have you ever wished for something before, where it actually came true — and the outcome was nothing like you expected, or it resulted in a terrible outcome?

OR

Did you ever publicly wish for something and someone warned you about it?

What was your wish?

(I figured it would be ok to mention what your wish was, since there's already been an aftermath...unless you're super super superstitious and would rather not talk about it. If that's the case, then there wouldn't be a need to post a reply, now would there? )

Nothing I wish for ever comes true.

"You don't wish for it, you work for it"

But yes, even when I "work" for something to happen, the outcome is usually not what I expect it to be

I have noticed that I tend to have things I wish for come true...and some of them actually are not what I imagined...Though nothing has been serious enough yet to warrant regret on my part.

Never.

A wish is a statement about the future and the future doesn't like being predicted.

Fourteen years ago, after decades of losses, near misses, abject failures dating I almost married my first "idealized version for a wife back when I was 22" significant other. Physically she was drop dead gorgeous as 50-year olds go. Mentally she possessed a brilliant mind, had a few advanced degrees under her belt. Her daughter was grown, theoretically self-sufficient. I even had money back then compared to now.

Ah, the connection was not to be. Somewhere between age 22 and age 54 (then) Life happened for both of us. Somewhere along Life's byway I learned substance and a benign personality are far more important traits in a potential significant other than skin-deep beauty. After dating several months "enjoying" non-stop manipulation and contentious, continuous mind games I quit putting up with it. Five days before we were to become as one I called it off. We parted as enemies.

A few years later I met my wife. I dropped my 22-year old facade of expectations that kept me single all those years and got real.....finally. So far it's been 10 years of blissful marriage to a wonderful woman though my life, such as it is, has been upside down ever since. No regrets.

Do be careful what you wish for.........you might get what you got coming to you.

Mmm nothing comes to mind. I don't wish for stuff often because I know the stuff I wish for never happens. I remember when I was young I wished I would finally get a damn rare drop from a game . 20 runs later and no luck. I bet if a wish I made did come true it would backfire though.

It's actually a good saying.
I always kind of whished to be alone more, left alone more, have more alone time. Now that i have more of those things and it is good in ways i kind've have that "be careful what you wish for" feeling.
Like i just mean i have more alone time and my own place and its great but perhaps not as great as i always thought. Plus getting older you change how you feel sometimes.
Even though i have one person in my life whom is border line stalker.. ^^;
