Just to clarify I'll name a few key races.
White
Black
Hispanic
Indian
The only time you see any Americans on Japan's television networks is on one of their cartoons and the white guys are always greedy, cocky and arrogant. The black guys are either drawn in Blackface or some muscular big lipped guy. And the hispanics and indians are never seen. Only once was a guy hispanic on Pokemon and I'm pretty sure that was just because America dubbed him that way, otherwise, nope.

there are racists
in every ethnicity..
but i get what youre saying
like in shows from the U.S.
the African Americans
are usually the ones stealing and
getting in trouble
The Latinos
are the drop outs mowing lawns
The Asians
are the smart
ones
and crap
like that.

Most anime takes place in Japan... you don't have many black guys in Japan... well you don't have as many apparently "Japanese" (white guys) as you got actual asians... so.. eh... I like my anime characters asian more.. when it's placed in Japan.. can be like 1 black guy.. or a few.. but 100 in Japan in one school? I doubt it

I think they are not racist at all regarding making comics/anime. Individually they may be..
but generally the reason why other race is commonly not drawn would be because they dont know that culture.
or the japanese viewers can not find a sence of similarity hence may lead to a low view rate
aka the producers earn less.
It's the same with every other countries too isnt it?

there kinda racist, there are some places in japan where they dont let gaijin inside. and not really racist but cops will come up to you randomly and ask if to see your visa or alien registration card so they can prove your not an illegal immigrant.
and i think this is a repeat thread, not sure.

Its not really racism. The Japanese are xenophobic and have been for awhile. Its starting to change among the younger generation but I wouldn't really call it racism. If you call it racism, it's not really towards one race but to ALL foreigners in general. You got to remember for thousands of years its been just the Japanese people but now there are foreigners everywhere. Nowadays they are trying to push for globalization which is definitely not a bad thing. Overall they are just not always that friendly towards foreigners but as I said before, its starting to change.

haha yea actually there are a lot of black people in Japan. Jamaican, African, and you name it. I haven't seen them in really remote areas in Japan but definitely in and around the outskirts of Tokyo. But thats probably expected anyway. That's where you find tons of foreigners

This thread is kind of odd because chances have it that a vast majority of the posters have never met someone living in Japan. It relys entirely on hearsay.
But, if i actually did meet an old Japanese citizen, I wouldn't be surprised if they acted funny towards me or called me round-eye or something.
