Like many people I was turned on to anime back when the likes of Sailor Moon and Dragonball first stared airing on local television and cable channels. They were a bit different than most the Western anime I was used to watching so they managed to catch my interest. I didn't really get hooked until High School (mid to late 90's) when a friend of mine lent me a few Ranma 1/2 VHS videos. It was my first exposure to sub-titled anime. It made me realize their were a ton of anime series out there I never knew exist and didn't have much real access to. I used that same friend to get a few other series (but this time fansubbed VHS tapes). And with Toonami (Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, Zoids, etc...) coming into form in the states, my love for anime started taking form.

Luckily, technology wasn't exactly at the point where a ton of anime series were available for my viewing or I probably would not have graduated High School, let alone college (and Grad school).

Got into Naruto during my first year of graduate school and with came my first exposure to digital distribution (of the unsavory kind). It became much easier to watch a variety of anime series and I ramped up my viewing habits to around 20-30 new series each season and have had it ever since.

The only difference now is that my means of accessing anime series are through much more legal means (CR, Hulu, Funimation, Netflix, etc...)

for me it started with Dragonball,Sailor Moon, Battle of the Planets, and Escaflowne. The artstyle grabbed me first then the way the stories are told and the way the action was done. No American cartoons were doing the things like anime was. i am so glad its more accessible. if you told a younger me that he could stream anime on demand and watch the same shows that japan were watching every week he'd cream himself/ myself.

Well, I watched Dragonball and Pokemon when I was younger, but that didn't really get me into anime. I also had watched part of Avatar: TLA and I thought it was anime at the time, so I searched for it on a website for anime (that may or may not have been less than legal :phew:). After that, I watched some of the other popular shows on that site and it got me hooked. I'm barely at the start of my journey though haha, I still have a crapton of anime to go through.

Back some time in the 90's SyFy channel aired anime on Saturday mornings, if i remember correctly, stuff like Vampire Hunter D, Akira and part of Record of Lodoss War. After watching these I was hooked as a kid and have been watching ever since

Well I started watching Jdramas first back in middle school. I eventually got bored of some of the dramas at the time and decided to expand my options to the anime world. I believe the first anime that I watched was fruit baskets.

So I had something to talk about with my high school crush.

I used to have a friend that was kinda into it. She introduced me to it, and shortly after I got more into it than her haha.

Dad was in a bike wreck when I was little. I'd lay in the hospital bed with him and watch Robotech (Early 80's) and then again in the 90's courtesy of sci-fi channel. I've loved anime ever since. It wasn't the first anime I watched (Voltron), but it was the first one I knew to be anime. That takes me back.

My ex watched DBZ obsessively. I would watch it with him sometimes. Then in college, I would stay up late flipping through channels and ended up watching Inuyasha. I then watched many episodes of random shows on adult swim.
