When I was a kid there was Battle of the Planets and Star Blazers which really got me into anime. Yeah I know those shows were heavily edited and "Americanized" but I was amazed that a cartoon could have an over-reaching story line instead of the standard episodic content that most cartoons provided. I was also amazed that these "cartoons" dealt with adult issues such as death. Star Blazers was really the first real anime show I watched and then Battle of the Planets. Both were changed vastly from their original form. We got a stupid robot instead of intense adult oriented scenes. Then Robotech came out and you have to hand it to Harmony Gold for taking three unrelated anime's and completely changing them and turning them into one epic show. After that I sort of grew up and there just wasn't much anime on mainstream Tv or anywhere else although I did enjoy all of the Shogun Warrior movies that used to come on HBO when I was a child.

As a teenager and then young adult I would go buy or rent anime movies but I never really watched any series. They just weren't available to me and all I ever found were movies. So about a year or so ago I was bored and I saw some anime's on Hulu (I think it was Hulu), and there was a show which I decided to start watching. It was my first real anime series and there was just something about the show that I really enjoyed so after I finished season 2 I got my brother to start watching it with me and both of us ended up watching all three seasons of Shakugan No Shana together. Shana remains my favorite anime to this day. Not because it's perfect but because of the memories. It was also a really great show. Not only was it the first real anime series I watched but it was also THE anime that got me back into anime as an adult. Plus I had a blast watching it with my brother who had been living out of state for years and had just moved back home. The show became more than just an anime to me and that's how I got back into anime.

Thankfully I found CR and ended up dropping Hulu like a bad habit.

I was at a friends house my junior year and we were bored so she pulled out her laptop and we were looking for stuff to watch, she showed me this really weird short horror anime (don't remember what it was called) i was just so intrigued by this, I had seen things like pokemon, yugioh when I was younger but I just saw them as cartoons. I asked her to make me a list of shows to watch and I pretty much went from there.

I remember watching an Anime as a kid, and I couldn't remember the title. I could remember parts of the movie, but not all. So for years I kept searching and searching using word clues in the search that maybe something would click. I stumbled into Hulu and their Anime selections first, then Crunchyroll...and in the process, I found my movie, and my memory of my childhood...so long and far away...

I discovered Anime completely by accident. I was expecting a different show to be on TV (If anyone's wondering, " Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? was the name of the show I was expecting). A new show I had never seen before with unique (to me at the time) animation had a girl fighting to save the world and had a talking cat to guide her. I missed the beginning of the show, but by the end I was completely hooked and had to find out more about this mysterious show. Back then my grandma subscribed to TV Guide and they happened to have an article about this new "Japanimation" called "Sailor Moon." I recognized the animation. I HAD to find out more.

...

The rest is history.

For me it started with Speed Racer (reruns) and Star Blazers, and then of course Robotech when it started airing in the U.S. The one that really got me hooked on anime was a title called "Warriors of the Wind" which was a very heavily cut and modified version of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" (in fact for those that know anything about this it is what kept Miyazaki reluctant to release any of his movies in the U.S. for years). Unfortunately in those days it wasn't easy to come across anime in the rental stores, and not many stores carried anime to buy either (if you did it was generally only a part of the series).

Over the years I would buy or rent anime if I saw it (I still only have partial series of some older anime as a result of that), and when Toonami started airing anime I would watch constantly. Hulu and Netflix were okay to get some of my anime fix (at least I could watch an entire series), but when I stumbled across Crunchyroll I was hooked (yes I know there are other sites, but I prefer the anime I see here over those...kind of the same reason that I prefer Nintendo over Play Station or X-Box).

My first was "Candy Candy" (1976), like most, I didn't know it was anime. I recently got hooked on anime from Netflix short selection and wanted more, so I'm here in CR.

I use to watch it a long time ago when i was little, but then i left. In highschool i was channel surfing and code geass was on T.V. Basically anime started to slowly find its way back into my life and I just thought why not. As well it was about the time when cartoon shows were going away because of CN real and stuff.

Pokemon originally. I would watch Anime in the mornings before school and thought that it was really weird. Until recently, i wasn't really into it, just watched a few here and there. However now i watch rather a lot since a friend helped me get into it. Watched Donyatsu, then started FoodWars, then watched Rezero which completely ripped my heart out and now i am hooked.

I remember I was 8 or 9 at the time. I was spending the night at night at my uncle's house. I had never spent the night somewhere else before, so i was kind or worried and i couldn't fall asleep. So i kept watching tv, and that's when cartoon network turned into adult swim. I knew i shouldn't be watching it because it had things like family guy and stuff like that on. So i was sneaking the shows and turned the tv down really softly so i could watch it and not get caught. I remember this anime where there was a guy and a girl. This girl had cat ears or something and loved this guy. I think she had some blue color features however i do not remember it vividly. However, before the episode ended, she started crying and kissed him and then killed him i think. I'm not entirely sure. To this day i have not been able to figure out what anime that is and still pains me that i don't know. Well then i heard foot steps and i quickly turned the tv off and rolled in bed looking like i was asleep, as i heard my uncle walk in and walk away.

Well a couple of years flew by, so I was maybe 11 or 12. This time another anime came on and it was called Eureka 7. I watch this anime and absolutely fell in love with it. I quickly the next day found this anime on the internet and binged was it in about 2 or 3 days. That's when i got hooked and started my anime. Not that I am looking back, my birthday was about 10 days ago. That means i've officially been watching anime for around 10+ years or so. That's awesome hah.

I was literally bored out of my mind once I graduated high school. Decided to get on netflix one day and look for a new show. Seen the picture for Sekirei and was like meh...why not. Watched it, loved it. Then I moved on to Bleach, Fruits Basket and the first season of Black Butler. It just took off from there.

I don't know when I originally got hooked. I know the first real one I saw that stuck out to me was when I was pretty young, DBZ was airing really early central time on Sunday (Fox). Toonami eventually became a ritual so I guess it would by the likes of things like Outlaw Star, Tenchi, Big O, and Yu Yu Hakusho. Toss in Adult Swim and it was game over, I had experienced things like Cowboy Bebop and FLCL.
