Generally speaking, fillers are just bad, but there were some pretty good filler arcs. The Captain Shusuke arc in Bleach has a nice story, while the Modsoul arc does a solid job in filling the time skip from the manga. The Infinity Clock and Eclipse Celestial Spirits arcs in Fairy Tail also does another solid job in fitting in with the story. The early filler arcs in Shippuden are nicely done and a huge improvement over the garbage that is the last 1/3 of the original series. That said, I would rather have studios taking a break instead of padding it with fillers, but there are still plenty of good filler arcs out there even if they are nothing compared to the canonical content.

The only fillers I like were from Fairy Tail. At least it connects with the manga.

One Piece had this one arc called the davy back fight arc, some people might find it annoying/boring but I loved it :). It can't be compared to the main arcs though.

But that was in manga was it not? They just expanded it (like Ussop getting trademark goggles) vs a "true" filler like awful dragon saved by girl with worst fruit ever (talks to animals). I hate filler - 9 times from 10 you can tell when somethings filler even if youve never read source material.

I'm not sure if that arc was in the manga since I was only watching the anime then. I have to agree with you that arc with that little girl was incredibly boring so I skipped it.

I like several of the Bleach filler seasons because it is nice to have a break from "blah blah Aizen did everything" and "blah blah I have to win this fight because I have to" and all of that.

Sure, I've enjoyed filler arcs before. The most notable ones are the G-8 arc from One Piece, which was actually more enjoyable than many "canon" arcs in the anime, and the Battleship mini-arc from Hunter X Hunter 1999. The Battleship mini-arc was actually my favorite part of 1999's Hunter Exam arc. Though most series don't usually have the luxury of having filler arcs; rather they would have filler episodes.

I've always really liked Rurouni Kenshin's pirate arc. Had some nice romantic moments between the main couple. And for some reason I find Kenshin purposely dislocating his wrists to escape capture to be one of his coolest feats to date.

In my opinion, filler tends to range from tolerable to even good when they're either short arcs or one-offs.

Fairy Tail had a short filler arc that involved some weird woman trying to create synthetic dragons. It was only a few episodes long and it gave Gray something to do. Entertaining.

Rurouni Kenshin had spatterings of filler, and I generally liked all of it. They were just short, cute, one off episodes that focused on some of the side characters. (In fact, my favorite Hiten Mitsurugi techniques all come from a filler episode. >____> )

Filler tends to be trash when it's a long, drawn out arc. Going back to Fairy Tail, the "Infinity Clock" arc was so bad that it burned me out on the series and I ended up dropping the show entirely in the middle of the big tournament arc that followed.

For me, I think this is because a long filler arc is all build-up with no payoff. Nothing in the filler arc will ever matter in the main story. Though props to Fairy Tail for at least referencing the Infinity Clock stuff during a later filler arc apparently. You're stuck for months with a story that you're not interested in that you know won't affect the characters or plot in any lasting way, because it can't.

I seem to agree with some. Fairy Tail fillers was my limit.

I think I died when Grey was forced to imitate Hard Gay x Elvis in the Cancer episode, lol.

I liked some of the filler arcs in the first Naruto anime series. One piece has also had some filler. Twin star exorcist's current filler arc is actually kind of interesting so far.
I like when we get filler arcs that actually give us some character development for characters that usually don't get it. That being said, a lot of filler is god awful. I like to watch fillers still because either they can add a little entertainment or they can be so bad that they are fun to laugh at.

I watch pretty much all filler, and enjoy almost all of what I watch. I don't really know why people have problems with filler. I watch shows to enjoy myself.
