What is a friend to you?
Posted 9/22/16
This might be a cheesy topic lol but wonder what is a friend to you or what is your definition of a friend in your own opinion and words?

A friend is someone I feel comfortable around and can tell who I like or what I like without fear of being judged or having my friendship revoked

A best friend is someone who I can tell my deepest darkest secrets to (such as where I buried the body) without fear of them judging me

^ pretty much hit the point on this one

pretty much you can tell this person anything and they will listen (never tell a soul) and help in anyway they can.

Someone I respect and like to be around. Someone who can be there for me or me be there for them. It's kind of a bond that you end up getting. It's easy to put in simple terms but in reality it feels complex (friendship I mean).

Yeah someone who is fun to be around. Someone who you can trust! someone who you feel good to be around and that will help you if you need it, wont turn their back on you, like others said, someone who you can share personal things with and talk to.
Also not someone who constantly asks for favours or to borrow stuff or try to pressure you into things. I mean friends do do that but if it's like one way traffic all the time or like they using you and taking your friendship for granted then they're not really a real friend.

Like many things lately, "friend" is a word that has no meaningful connotations to me at this time.

This picture sums up friendship for me pretty nicely

I don't really have a definition. 0_0

I know when someone is an acquaintance. I feel like some people aren't easy to get close to. That's about it.

A socially symbiotic platonic relationship.

This reminds me of a plaque I saw when I was on a beach day trip with a friend. It said,

"You'll always be my Friend
You know to much"

Of course I immediately showed it to my friend

It's hard to define for me. A few years ago I would be using the same terms most of you would. Now it seems a more tenuous thing to me. I have always been able to could my best friends one or both hands but as I have gotten older a lot of the things that I thought made "friendship" are pretty fleeting and more fragile than I thought. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I have become comfortable with being alone and friendship for me is more about being around people that are mostly trustworthy and because they are interesting.
Most of the people I thought were good friends turned out to be more flaky than I had thought and as we have gotten older they have gotten More narcissistic and mentally lazy. I found this to be with most of my cousins and a number of old . . . friends.

One gal I worked with I considered a friend after a while she seemed to expect me to lie for her and apparently I guess I'm not supposed to talk to her (on the phone) when her husband is around.... *WTF*
I don't consider her much of a friend anymore.
