Here's the deal, us otakus (honestly I'm getting retired from being one but I used to be), people who watch a lot of anime and don't have much relationships with real people. Nothing against this, but here's a thought. We'd like to think we are kind people, nice guys etc, but are we really?

I will use Re:Zero as an example I think one of the reasons it's been quite successful is because the protagonist is relatable, we'd like to think that's how we will behave in his situation. We think we will be nice to the girl everyone else discriminates against because we believe in equality. Maybe many of you will think that you can also be as brave, persistent and assertive as he is, and you think you have those virtues and simply haven't had the chance to present them.

Maybe you are right in all those things, I'm not here to debate that. The only thing I will say about it is that most people think they are above average. However, the truth of our self-evaluations aside, I think there is a bigger question.

Aren't we secretly hoping that there is a drop-dead gorgeous girl who's perfect in every way, but nobody wants her so she has no choice but to fall for me? Now that's very different from not being able to live up to the degree of moral integrity you think you have. If this was true it would show that

first, we want someone to suffer extreme discrimination,
and secondly, we don't really want to compete for what we want, we are hoping that it will just be handed to us in a silver platter.

Now of course you can debate about how Emilia wasn't just low hanging fruit because the protagonist had to go through hell to get it. Well yea that's part of the reason I actually end up liking this show. But still, It is relatively easy to see your reward right in front of your eyes. It is relatively easy to only have to work hard for a few hours, or days at most to get the perfect girl for life, rather than years and decades. It is relatively easy to have the threat of death motivating your rather than just your own weak mentality.

Imagine this, what if Emilia is not a royalty, what if she's a peasant, fat, ugly, lazy, self-centered, unorganized and unintelligent girl who's also a victim of discrimination? Would any of us still give a flying fuck? You don't need to fall in love with her, you just need to stand up for her equal treatment, would you? I'm not so sure if I would. And what if the protagonist resets not 3 days but 30 years? And he doesn't save Emilia through physical battles in a few days but through doing well in school and at work, all day, every day, for 30 years? No it won't make a good show, but the question is are you willing to go through that for being nice and just? Or maybe you are just willing to go through the short and easy stuff for the perfect rack?

I'm not trying to bash the show, or people who like it. I thought it was pretty decent, and I really liked the message of how the protagonist guy was actually being selfish in the second act and stuff. I just thought it would be better to be clear about why you like a certain character or show, the real reason behind it, even if it's not the most desirable.

People might if it hinges on their success.

If it's a person I hate, yes.
If it's some random person, no.

Why would he go through all that if he didn't love her to some degree. Of course if shes unattractive I wouldn't really see any chemistry between them. I'm not really far into that anime yet.

Not really sure what you're implying here?

If it's a person I dislike then sure I don't care. Like if something were to happen to my ex I wouldn't bat an eye
But not to any random person. Idk how they are but I always give random people the benefit of the doubt.

It dose seem to almost be human nature to feel that way.
I personally try to not be a hater, i think i am not a hater for the most part. But we all hate on others success or good fortune to an extent i think.
I think sometimes we feel that some people do not deserve what they get or have. And sometimes people clearly do seem to get enjoyment and pleasure out of others misfortune.
Not sure if it makes us feel better about our selves or if to feel like that is to just be a jealous biter and a hater?

I never used to be a hater at all. But i have somewhat become a hater lol.

EDIT: i am not the sort of person to wish misfortune on others though. And i cant say that i feel pleasure seeing others suffer. Of course some people do deserve the misfortune that they bring on themselves.
But even when things are going bad for me, i do not wish that things would go bad for everyone else.

No, I don't want anyone to suffer extreme discrimination. Yes, I don't want to compete for what I want. No, I don't hope that it will be handed to me on a silver platter. Also, I didn't feel any particular attachment to Emilia.

Just a suggestion, but maybe next time when you are only speaking for yourself, you might consider using singular pronouns.
