Well, have you?

I've won quite a few online ones specifically:

- Samsung Plasma TV around 2007, was worth about $3K at the time from ATI/DriverHeaven
- ATI/SmoothCreations custom painted CM PC Case, around $1.5K also around 2007
- Killer NIC M1 for my PC, which was round $200
- A few graphics cards from ATI, the models escape me - they were for writing a Ruby origin story. They were worth $250 total or so?
- PS3, won from a competition on 1UP and Castrol GTX (get a high score on a flash game for that month, it eventually got taken down after the first month because of rampant cheating) - $300
- Cary Audio Xciter DAC from AudiophileReview and Cary Audio, was about $1.6K
- Used test pair of Q701 Headphones from innerfidelity from making Tyll laugh. $200 iirc?

Total: $7,050

I'm sure there's other smaller items I've won as well, like various cheaper promo items, strategy guides, etc.

I've had to sign quite a few affidavits for them in the past, and now when I win something my family simply shrugs. My sister now assumes I rig all contests.

So, any other lucky ones out there?

......how?

I've never won anything from any contest I've ever entered

Damn OP you're really lucky
I've only won 1 contest and it was for a free beta code for some game I don't remember a couple years ago

Wow lol I don't think I have won anything I have entered lol. Agree with Velvet you are one lucky person lol.

A baseball cap that's probably worth $5, with the magazine's logo on it, so it's like I'm advertising the magazine for free. I lost it on a train, it was a pretty nice cap, though.

I would rather win something bigger, like a holiday trip or a TV or even a house. Sadly, I don't have the luck for it.

I sure don't remember winning that many. I once entered a powerstone tournament for Lost Saga in which 2 teams of my guild qualified for. My team won silver and the other team won gold. I forgot what we got. My guild also qualified for the world cyber games and took home silver medal 2yrs in a row.

Besides that, my team won silver in a monster bash tourney at LaTale and we got exclusive blurs and stuff.

Damn, you're good. I used to win a lot of 12 packs of soda when I was a kid by being the tenth caller to a local radio station. I won $500 on a scratch off once but that's about it. Compared to your list....well..../we're not worthy. /we're not worthy. /bows.

Good job though. I'm glad someone's winning. I always assumed that all online things like that were scams lol. Or just blatant data mining attempts. Nice to see that there's some real prizes out there.

Nothing like OP! I've only won one contest. At work, if your bosses enter your name into this drawing, you can win money monthly/quarterly if picked. I won a few months back....finally.

Well, a few tips I guess:

First and foremost - don't pay money to enter! This should only be done for tournaments your confident in or have a reason to enter. Anything lottery based or gambling based should be avoided at all costs, especially if there's no guaranteed winner (raffles at least have a winner, but I still heavily dislike them).

Have some hobbies you know a lot about that involves equipment. Anime doesn't typically involve equipment itself, but home theater does . Know manufactures established and entering the market getting popular. Subscribe to their newsletters or watch their social media accounts for giveaway announcements.

Giveaways that are the best have lower visibility with low entry requirements. Sites that are growing that have good relationships with the industry are prone to have giveaways. Join the community and participate since some giveaways occur in forums and require established accounts. After keep some activity for a pulse, but since it's something you enjoy anyway this shouldn't be felt as "time invested" anyway.

Watch established and upcoming media outlets that do reviews on the products. They too should have good industry relationships.

I don't like this, but many now give extra entries for social media. It may be worth having a garbage FB and Twitter account you don't really use for extra entries.

I tend not to participate in those that have "multiple entries per day" as they are a time sink. Enter once and be done with it, pick stuff with high ROI. If it takes more than 30 seconds to enter it's usually not worth your time. The only flipside of this is when you estimate that there will be very few entries or that it may be skill based with something you're good at. This includes CR scavenger hunt and video junk IMO unless you are seriously interested in the goods (they are limited but aren't of particularly high value, more sentimental collectors pieces you yourself want).

Don't be too picky. If you like one manufacture in your hobby but not another, if they still offer a good product for your hobby you should enter. Equally, if it's a high dollar item in your hobby you should still enter. You can resell the good at a loss and buy something you do want (I only have the PC case still, and I'm not using it currently).

Don't fall for scam sites. By joining communities that have some connections with the company, proper media outlets, and watching the manufacture themselves you should hopefully see at least some contests popping up. Audiophilia is rather niche and even has some. Head-Fi for example has occasional contests on forums from manufactures (though I really dislike the general community outside of science sub-forums).

The biggest win, the TV, simply required I visit a page that showed the specifications of an ATI card and enter my email. Since I was looking for that documentation anyway it was a simple extra step. One day at school I got an email noting I had won the grand prize. Which brings me to the following:

Keep track of contests you enter. You may see a lot of "you won an ipad" like emails, but clearly you should know what contests you did/didn't enter. When I got the email at school I let out a "Holy shit! I won a 50" Sammy" - the teacher first got angry about my language, then tried telling me it was a scam. When I told her, no, I explicitly entered and that it was a giveaway hosted by a combination of major companies including MS, Samsung, ATI, and a community media outlet she then understood that, no, it wasn't. If you can't look at an email and remember if you entered you either have spam or you've become addicted and need help.

Ah, and something I forgot I won:

- Phiaton PS 20 BT Headset from a Facebook contest. @ $150, had forgot social media linked stuff

Won a grand prize via Funimation last April when I entered very late. It was 2 tickets to attend the Hatsune Miku concert being held at the Bomb Factory, Dallas, TX, doors open at 7PM. I didn't go account Dallas is expensive to stay over compared to Plano or somewhere in Oklahoma re accommodations and it was spur of the moment entry. Had it been held at 3PM (was 1 in Austin, TX then, same day) I would've attended.

Upon receipt oof the 2 tickets I called 1 of the creative guys at Funi down in Flower Mound, TX and told him I'm returning the tickets Next Day FedEx which I did do. Hopefully, the runners-up got a chance to go.

Won an ANN giveaway BD/DVD a few years ago. Bamboo kept me informed re receipt of BD. Yea, it was actually 1 I enjoyed, now own.
