Or be like, hey man, you have not been doing your work, if you don't step it up i'm going to have to let you go.

And if so how did they react? And how did you feel about it?

I run a online group and some months ago added some mods to help me run it as its a lot of work doing everything myself. Unfortunately they have not been doing their mod duties and I have continued to do it all myself.
They of course have had lots of excuses but during the interview they said they would have time.
But they have not, so I've finally messaged them today letting them know if they don't step it up i'm going to have to let them go because I need active mods to keep things running smoothly.

This was my first time basically telling someone i'm going to have to fire them if they don't start doing their work x-x
I felt very nervous and I hope they take it well.

(Also yay for first forum topic! :P)

I haven't had to personally, no, as I'm just a corporate cubicle drone and have no desire to get into management.

However, I am close to people who have had to do that sort of thing, and feeling nervous or reluctant is entirely normal. (In one case, someone actually had to step in and give the, "You've had plenty of chances to shape up, you're fired," conversation because the employee's actual supervisor didn't have the stomach to flat out tell her she was out of strikes. It was also partially because the company, rightly or wrongly, felt it was less likely to get sued if the person firing her was another woman.)

Yes sadly, I had to let go of this one worker because she kept having too many no call, no shows.
Thing is though is that I knew she was a single mother so she was probably having some trouble with her kid and it pained me to call her to let her go but the company was losing money for it.
Idk how people do it but my heart felt so heavy for the next week or so, hoping she could find another job quickly

Once, and I was forced to by my boss. It sucks because me and that person used to smoke weed on all our breaks. He was my only work friend haha.

I have only fired someone once before. But since i was not the company owner, he just went to my boss and got hired back right under my supervision again. that took a whole 10 minutes. Next thing that happened, I quit. If I have the power but cannot use the power why am i there?

No, but I've been responsible for people getting fired. Basically, my boss would sometimes come to me about a new person and ask what I thought. If I talked a bunch of shit that person probably wouldn't be kept. I only did that twice though, and it's not something I did lightly. But those people would have been terrible for me, my co-workers, and the business.

My brother has managed a restaurant for a long time. He says that when you have to fire good people, you should tell them they can list you as a positive reference. Best you can really do for them.

I fired my mom from doing my school projects sometimes she would take her creativity to a whole new level that i was sure to get caught. so i had a team meeting and decided to rehire her and demoted her to color and paste instead.
