Due the new political awareness that most 16-25 year-olds harbor, it's only natural that it would begin to develop here as well. Many politically fueled threads are made everyday, not just about candidates or debates, but also about social events, and their political implications. I believe, in light of this, a new board would be an appropriate addition to this community.

While GD is a very inclusive, and a fairly light-hearted board, I feel that politics ill suits it. With any political or social event, there are numerous facts to examine, rumors to fact-check, and beliefs to be weighted and examined. The debates tend to, at times, get heated. This makes subjects go on for an alarming number of posts.

I also feel that these discussions could be enriched somewhat if they had their own board. Many people who post primarily on GD are here to joke around, share content, and socialize. Many people here are somewhat less likely to be interested in long draw-out political debates, due to not being as aware(or even interested) in current world events. If there were a "Political Board" users would know exactly what they were getting into before they even posted.

Here is the current top threads on GD with blue dots showing which threads could easily be under a new political board.

GD, feel free to let the folks at CR know what you think. Hell, I'd like to know at least.

Sorry guys for the lack of zooming on the picture. Feel kinda dumb and I don't think I can edit it out.

As much as I would like to say "Yes, thank you!" and agree, I wouldn't recommend it. Study shows that if you make these guys feel like they don't have a platform from which they can reach out to us with their stupid repetitive shit that they are more likely to go shoot up schools :/

Fair point, I mean I don't feel any single board should be 100% contained to it's single topic, and GD exists to cover those grey areas. Most of what I want to call social events/issues will still cross over here. People will still give their political angle on that subject, and that is okay, honestly. It's not as if mods who frequent GD will throw any mention of Trump, X Lives Matter, or Feminism to some kinda Shadow Realm.

I don't really see the need for this.

9/30 (not including this one) of the most recently replied to threads can be labeled as having something to do with political or social events.

Again, not really seeing why you would want to encourage them. Most of those threads deal with US politics, and most of the replies tend to be from non-US people who have inexplicably strong feelings about US politics. Keeping it in General Discussion keeps it from attaining a level of importance in people's psyches beyond the actual scope or value of the thread itself.

The devaluation of the political threads in General Discussion keeps them sane.

What you are suggesting basically amounts to a return of the extended discussion board. And I would be all for that.

Same. If one day the mods deemed it no longer needed, it could be easily deleted and return to GD. It would at least be a good little experiment.

Is there a reason that the General Discussion board needs to be completely filled with random posts of stupidity, rather than just half filled with them? I think a balance is good. It is just too bad that so many of the political posts right now are about political clowns (Trump and Hillary), random posts of news snippets from biased/poor sources, and random posts of the latest sensational news in "black" vs police/society(riots).

How about just not reading threads with political topics?
Posted 9/28/16
Yes.
Some of us come here to talk about fun things and anime, not to read about the same jokes over and over repeated infinite times. The reason I stopped using Twitter is because everywhere I go, someone is making a joke. It's not funny the first time and sure as hell not funny the 324324th time, yet these people keep doingit.

At this point I'm not even sure if they're doing it because they think they're being funny or if they're just trolling. I'm beginning to think it's the latter. No matter how much you love politics, there's going to be a point where you think, "I've had enough". But nope, they're going on and on like a steam engine that never runs out of coal or workers.

I'm sure this comment of mine will encourage them to keep doing those jokes, but I will keep ignoring those political threads and people who make them. I suggest others who are tired of it do the same. If they don't get replies, they will go away, hopefully.

Again, great points. I'm all for political discussion, I believe it doesn't belong in GD 24/7.

While, yes, I feel that have a Political board might attract more people to fight in a big cluster of ignorance, I feel it goes "Out of sight, out of mind". As someone who spend most of his time just lurking in GD, I don't really pay attention to the folks who argue on the Manga or Anime boards. Any drama that goes on over there is their problem.

The problem is that the boards are labeled for a reason.I realize that GD is a grey area and these posts have every right to exist. Surely if you believe the idea of what you said, why not combine all the boards into a mega-board? The reason this doesn't work is because boards are divided is so people can efficiently find topics that interest them. If there were a political board, GD would be cleared of most of the posts, and those interested would have an easier time finding the particular topics that they want to read about or discuss.
