Post Reply Have you ever waited for someone but they never showed up?

Nope, I haven't been on enough dates to be stood up anyway. I can't remember the last date I had. OH WAIT

I remember the last date I had was the worst date I've ever been on.

I've had people not turn up for meetings, but I worked through so I wouldn't call it "waiting" as such.

Waiting for repairmen though - That's more the norm than the exception. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, plasterers.

There must be some misunderstanding
There must be some kind of mistake
I waited in the rain for hours
And you were late

yeah, but we were both waiting at the wrong spots, so we sort of stood eachother up by accident..

Yes and it pisses me off. If you're not gonna be able to make it at least let me know so I don't waste my time waiting!

Yeah, I have some times, and it's quite frustrating when it happens. The most recent time I can recall was during a class lecture in college when the professor failed to show up. So after waiting about 20 minutes, everybody just got up and left. As it turns out, the professor had car troubles on the way to the university, so that was that. Stuff like that does happen as everybody realizes, so at least he was up front about what just went down.

I waited for a friend who was going to take me to a stake house for a Birthday lunch. I found the place and waited for him for 3 hours and he never showed.

Fifteen minute rule works fine.

Experience has taught me to never set myself up to be in an expensive restaurant waiting for a date although I did have to violate 1 of my social rules on a first date one time when all the lesser expensive restaurants were filled with prom night high school kids. I met a lady at 1 restaurant waiting room where the wait time was 1.5-2 hours. Hell with that. I called around and found a higher end ambiance atmospheric restaurant with room which is where we went. After being seated the lady and I proceeded to interview each other (you do this when you get way older versus small talk). Before dinner selection this country gal stated in no uncertain terms loud enough for everyone to hear that "unlike my sister, these (pointing to her chest area) are real". Hmmm, never encountered THIS on a date before. No sooner had she finished that declarative statement I stated right back equally voluminous "no big deal....my ex-fiancee had augmented boobs and they felt nice and soft to me". Ah, middle-aged dating.....looks like both of us needed a cup of couth in time for Christmas. Oh, well.

Before I met my wife I would get stood up 1 out of 7 meeting arrangements. Some of the reasons were legit (sick child), others....who knows.

Work: over the years I taught myself to be able to load a truck by myself if I had to as lumper help which comprised of able-bodied winos 50% of the time was unpredictable if the arrangement was to have he/they meet you at the pickup site. I used to worry excessively about this but as I got more experienced OTR (over the road) my fears having to go it alone diminished significantly.
