Hello, I've been an avid Crunchyroll addict for about five years now. I'm pretty much here to indulge myself in awesome anime shows. But lately, I have seen on the news feeds, the really cool raffle-of- sorts that are only available to those who are on a trial version. This has saddened me as I even made a new account one day before the Naruto Giveaway was out and now I see a "win a trip to japan for 2" This is pure torture~~~ so since I have not truly explored all of the crunchyroll website, as I keep getting distracted with new shows... Infact... as you might suspect, I'm soon to be watching the latest Naruto Episode in a moment... the finally~~~ (BTW: If you do not know already, after you have watched this last episode of Naruto, find Baruto, its a movie that takes place after this series... it was amazing. Yeah... I know I probably should have waited... but it seemed like forever before they released an episode of naruto.... what is a fan to do!)

Soo..... are there any contests for dedicated members of the website or is it just to entice the noobs.

If there are no contests or giveaways, maybe we should use this forum to direct eachother to ones that might be available elsewhere... cuz lets face it. We Otaku's spend a pretty penny collecting our favorite anime gadgets, books and nick nacks, its a great treat to get some of it to add to our collection for free

I think it's really hilarious how most if not all responses to that contest thread are people being pissed off.

I think this current Japan contest is the first one I've been aware of in my nine months here.

They do have them from time-to-time, though it's not something I pay particular attention to.

There was one for Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans, and one for Rokka -Braves of the Six Flowers- as well. I don't recall either having prizes with a cash-value as high as a trip to Japan, but perhaps other contests have.

You're typically asked to answer a question or submit some kind of fan-art, etc. related to the series in question. Maybe others remember more contests than I do.

Well, I can't blame them, and I'm one of the people who's not necessarily pissed off about it, but I am upset about it. This is twice in the last year where I've seen a contest offered for new members, yet nothing offered to their already paying Premium Members. I mean, yeah, if you're a Premium Plus member you get some exclusive benefits and maybe an exclusive contest or two, but that's it. Almost nothing special is offered to the regular Premium Members beyond the store discount, and that's really a shame that as a business they're neglecting their paying members in such a way. If you're going to run a contest like this, you should do something to include those people who actually put money into your business, like a separate contest for those members. It's basic business practice. Doing something for new members only without offering something similar to already paying members makes us feel neglected and unappreciated.

Yes, and those contests were for sitewide members, paying or not, if I remember correctly. Anyone who was a member of the site could enter those. I just think that there were extra perks for winning if you were a paying member.

True, I didn't consider whether by "dedicated members" the OP meant contests for premium members specifically, as opposed to any previously established user accounts.

I honestly wouldn't be the person to ask either way, I only happened to remember those two contests off-hand.

Yeah I'm kind of finding it funny how it's shaping up to be a minor public relations disaster for Crunchyroll

I feel like it more speaks volumes that this high tier level of incentive is being used specifically for bringing in new users.

You are now getting some of Funimation and CR combined with your premium purchase, is that not enough?.

Why are you complaining?

Sure if they want to do something in the future, so be it, but right now we need to solve one problem at a time, and that's creating reciprocation.

Because we all presume CR is trying to keep as well as attract new premium members, not encourage their most loyal customers to quit & rejoin so they can be eligible for more perks that are only eligible to new people.

Giving away a paid vacation to Japan on a anime/manga site is like giving away box seat season passes in a baseball card club. Its pretty much the ultimate otaku bait and the biggest otaku's CR has are not eligible because the message is loud and clear that "we already have your money" its no wonder there are tons of complaints.

The contest should have been for premium members only & new members should join CR for the privilege of being able to enter imo, if they wanted to make a contest for new members they should make the prize a store discount or free months of CR, or anything that doesn't inspire this degree of green eyed mouth watering jealousy from a ton of otaku's who comprise your customer base.

Tell me something, are you the customer? Of course you are.

If I want to go to Japan I will do so when I'm ready and knowledgeable.

So you just expect to win right? So giving premium members a chance to win while giving new potential members nothing. That sounds like a complete failure for running a business.

You can bitch and cry about this all you want, but guess what? I am a premium member! I don't care what contest they offer. I would rather them have deals on the store. Loyal customers quit? I would only quit if I can't play my videos, and not have my content available wherever I am. I have been a loyal customer for almost 2 years, sure I may have questioned some things and probably come off as being rude, but just like any frustrated customer who doesn't get a solution, sometimes we have to go elsewhere or solve it on our own, but that doesn't mean I would cancel a subscription. Sometimes we get upset over certain issues, but my money only wants to go towards a good cause.

I'm not eligible for a chance to win a trip to Japan ohh no!! Not like I have the option to buy a flight to Japan, but probably not because i'm in Canada and our Dollar is still a joke So whatever. Life goes on with or without you.

First off I'm only a Premium member, I'm not eligible for contests because I don't care about the contests. Premium + members are the only ones who get access to contests.

I'm just saying Premium+ members have a right to be mad, since new members are the only ones seeming to benefit from what should be a listed perk. Second where did I say new members should get nothing? I posted examples of what they should give to new members if they still wanted to run a new member contest. How is it a failed business model if they get the same chance as other paying customers as well as other incentives to join?

I'm in the same boat as you, and just like you I've been a customer for almost 2 years, just like you I only care about the anime and manga, that's why like you I'm only a Premium member and not a Premium+ member.

I like CR a lot but in the almost 2 years I've been here I've only heard of only 1 contest and the prize was the same as the one now, except there was only 1 Japan trip winner, not 5 like now. New regular premium users are getting a better deal meanwhile the loyal higher paying premium+ users are getting screwed out of a listed perk and I emphasize and wish to support them so that I might one day join their ranks when I feel its worth the cost.
