Original Poll Text
This poll is very similar to others but I find people often add extraneous answer choices that make those polls less informative. I stuck to 3 basic options for this one.

UPDATE AS OF October 4th 2016 at 11:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time

I made this poll originally to mimic an old 2012 global poll that I found online because I wanted to compare the demographic of "people who vote on polls on Crunchyroll forums" to the demographic of the people polled by the global poll that inspired this.

Here is a link to the poll: http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/global-poll-shows-53-of-the-world-is-happy-but-what-about-the-us-1636612.htm

If you don't care to read that this picture sums up the results of the poll that inspired this poll:

As of now (October 4th 2016) there are a total of 46 votes on this (Crunchyroll) poll and they are:

24% (11 people) responded "I am happy."
54% (25 people) responded "I am neither happy nor unhappy."
22% (10 people) responded "I am unhappy."

This may be a somewhat expected result as people who spend a lot of time online are often stereotyped as lonely or less happy but it is interesting to see such stereotypes reflected in a poll. Keep in mind this is a tiny sample size and non scientific poll when you consider things like the fact that on a public forum poll people may be less likely to admit that they are unhappy among other things.

I originally didn't post the poll that inspired this one because I wanted people to vote with no bias based on having seen those results.

What I find most intriguing is that the percentage of people who voted "I am unhappy." in this poll was almost exactly the same as the United States poll, but the people who voted "I am neither happy nor unhappy." was double. So compared to the people polled in the 2012 poll, the Crunchyroll forum voters has half as many self identifying happy people and twice as many neutral people but the same amount of self identifying unhappy people.

I just thought this would be an interesting mini experiment if anyone has any thoughts on why the results are like this post in the comments.

Happy, however fluctuating between being happy and...indifferent.

Certainly always amused, life changes so much and every day is immensely eventful, and although things go well...

I also think the attainability of happiness also depends on the person and how sophisticated their minds are.

Now, i'm not saying someone with a less sophisticated mind is ALWAYS happier, but the trend (at least from what I have concluded) is that those with less sharpened minds are more easily satisfied and happier.

'Ignorance is bliss'-type of thing perhaps? Or maybe i'm full of crap.

Anyway, that's my little two cents!

I'll say that at this time at 3:03 AM EST, I am happy!

I am happy because I am alone. I don't know if there's anyone I can truly relate with, but I just never felt any desire to make friends or be in some relationship.

I am unhappy because of the typical "nothing to live for" BS.

I'm truly neither happy or unhappy. Some moments I'm great, and others, not so much. There's lots of room for improvement, goals to meet, but going in the right direction. Not to say accomplishing the goals will mean automatic happiness, but it's a start.

today i'm really happy because i'm meeting up with a friend i haven't seen since March [just hope she doesn't cancel last minute again]

as someone who has lived through depression, i take great stock of those times when i'm happy. depression doesn't mean sad, it's this numbness of neither happy nor sad, and it's such a hollow feeling i don't want anyone to ever experience it.

Happy half the time and unhappy the other half of the time, so in the end it averages to neutral I guess.
