Or perhaps not-Slovenian-Slovakian-Austrian.

Like the setting and the fact we have a competent princess. Interested in seeing where this one goes.

Someone watched lots of Studio Ghibli before making that opening scene.

When they showed the map and pointed out where Eylstadt it looks like it is situated roughly where the Austrian State of Tyrol is so I guess she is technically not Austrian.

Another anime is the scandinavian world during WW II

Overall episode 1 was excellent. The animation, the music , the characters .

Lets see how the story develops.

Since the technology in this show apparently is the same as ours in that era, right down to specific models according to some of you, was it normal for that German soldier to be waving around a golden gun?

No, golden guns aren't exactly common... Especially German golden guns with the motto of the British Special Air Service engraved on it...

That being said, this looks interesting, very interesting.

Scandinavian? Scandinavians (like descendents like me) have Germanic roots, and were once part of Germania. But Germania is only part and parcel of the Scandinavian whole. In haplotype, Germanic Scandinavian genetics is roughly 1/3rd (or less) of Scandinavians.

Well, I cried and I don't know why .
I wasn't sure about this show but so far I'm really enjoying it. Great soundtrack and I like Fine. Izetta's voice could be different but as long as she doesn't scream "Hime-sama" all the time it shouldn't be a problem .

This actually put me to sleep.

The soundtrack is amazing though, was it yuki kajiura? Reminded me very much of Madoka magika.

I really liked Fine. She seems to understand her role in life and is perfectly happy to live her life for her country. She's noble, but not so stupidly noble that she can't lie or take what is offered her. Overall she is capable and so far is not the typical anime princess cliche. I really hope they keep this up and she doesn't become useless in the future.

To the point that every weapon and vehicle shown, from the Walther P38s at the start to the SM.79 Sparviero they were flying in at the end, were faithful representations of their historical counterparts. It was a big game of "name the thing" for WW2 buffs.

JU-52 /3M https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junkers_Ju_52

And the anti-tank rifle is, I think, the Swiss made Solothorn S18 used by Nazi Germany. But I'd have to watch again to get another look at it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solothurn_S-18/100

After going back and having another look you are right about the Ju52. I just seen the three engine setup and defaulted to a SM79. SM79/81s and JU52 confuse me as aircraft isn't my strong point.

The AT rifle definitely looks like a PTRS though.

I went an looked it up and your 110% right on the PTRS. Only ATRs I know decently about are the Boys and Solthorn. I just know aniy yjr Ju-52 being an airplane/WWII history nerd.

Well it is great that you two have agreed that the gun-broomstick (that's was I will be calling it) is a PTRS. Now I have have a rhetorical question, not really expecting an answer since only the creator of the series can give me a definitive one but I do want to at least put the question out there, and that question is:

Why are the not German's using a historically Soviet weapon?
