Perhaps these not-germans were smarter that their real life counterparts and decided that invading not-Russia is a bad idea.

Well it is great that you two have agreed that the gun-broomstick (that's was I will be calling it) is a PTRS. Now I have have a rhetorical question, not really expecting an answer since only the creator of the series can give me a definitive one but I do want to at least put the question out there, and that question is:

Why are the not German's using a historically Soviet weapon?

Probably the same reason the actual Germans ended up using a lot of Russian, American, British, Spanish etc stuff; bought them before the war and stole them during it. The Germans actually fielded Russian KV tanks for example.

What this is yuri? The first episode was pretty good and I didn't get that vibe so it'd be a shame if it goes that route.

How did you miss hearing and seeing Izetta and Fine call out each other's names and hold hands and hug for the last 5 minutes, into the ED??? If that isn't Yuri it is very deep friendship. They may back away from it as most Japanese fans prefer yuri subtext to actual full blown shown yuri but yuri fans are hoping they go for it.

Episode 1

Oh baby! Now that was a great first episode. I'm loving the alt world war 2 with a touch of magic setting, COUNT ME IN.

The plot seems really interesting, I love Fine so far, and I like the spin on history. The Germans are at it again.

Cannot wait for the next episode. I hope the quality stays consistent.

Would definitely be interesting and bold if they want full yuri, we need more homosexual relationships in anime that aren't dumbed down by established tropes. But I doubt that it'll go that route.

This is why I think it's silly that people drop a series because they think it's yuri. If they actually knew anything about yuri in anime they would realize that the chances of a genuine homosexual relationship are astronomically low, meaning they dropped a series for no real reason. I also agree, it's incredibly cheap that most anime and manga don't portray an actual relationship instead of just baiting the fans with subtext, which has started this toxic shipping behavior in fans, where they will pair any members of the same sex, regardless of their actual sexuality, simply because they aren't satisfied due to a lack of canon relationships. Truly, this happens mainly because fans of yuri simply learned to not actually expect an actual relationship and that they are only allowed to read into subtext. While I understand that they keep it as purely subtext in order to attract a wider audience, it ultimately does no good and needs to happen less. And while I hope Izetta does actually go yuri, I really doubt that it'll go down that path.

Yes, agreed. I've talked about the use of sexuality in anime a lot in the past and from what I've seen a lot of it is very immature, overly idealized, and like you said, very subtle, whether it be homosexual or heterosexual, which can leave a bad connotations - like shipping wars. Obviously though there's a fair bit of great straight anime relationships that actually get explored well, even if there is a good amount of lackluster relationships out there, there's plenty of solid ones (most recently would be ReLife). But for homosexual relationships? Pfff, almost nonexistent. The most recent thing I watched in anime that I can think of with an interesting homosexual relationship was Harmony. Usually what we end up getting is stuff like Sakura Trick which is very idealized and dumbed down. Most homosexual relationships in particular, aren't taken too seriously or leave it very open ended. It's a shame that a lot of Japanese writers don't want to explore that territory more often, even Legend of Korra has surpassed a lot of them in that regard. I'd love to see something on the scale of Jessica Jones (the netflix version) that's very open about the different types of sexual relationships going on.

But ya, I'm not holding out any hope really for Izetta to go that way. Will probably just be a strong friendship like the usual.

Who knows what it will be after the first episode. I'm not calling it yuri yet because it isn't as obvious as Sakura Trick went and that was a fun watch. I think regardless what "sexual path" they go down (which I really don't care tbh), I like the setting and you'll always get my attention if anything related to WWII and/or military tactics/battles are involved.

Hmm, set somewhere around the WWII? Nice. I like history and maybe this one gives some of that.

Episode 2

And Izetta is kicking ass and taking names on the battlefield, so it's no wonder why those Germans are so surprised that they are having a tough time crushing a country that they have the huge arms advantage over. Now out of harm's way, Fine's old wound is explained as she knows Izetta from her childhood days. So Fine decides that Izetta should stay out of this given that it's taboo for her to take sides, but Izetta isn't backing down. That was great to see those two building so much great chemistry together that goes way back.

Episode 2

Hmm, it was an interesting episode.

Seems like Izetta and Fine is getting along quite a bit in the present timeline. I do like their character chemistry as it's built on trust. Hope Izetta has more confidence when in her presence though. Also, Izetta demonstrated some of her powers(?). Looks like it requires blood to work.

The world building still works for the show quite well imo.
