I can imagine this being bloodier than Madoka based on that first scene. Looks great, pon!

Anyone know why Crunchyroll was listed in the ED credits?

I thnk this is part of that CR- Kadokawa partnership. They funded some of it probably.

I might be getting the vibes that it'll turn into a Madoka rip-off that is too edgy for its own good, but for now it's pretty pleasant. I'll stick with it and see how the plot shapes itself.

Ep 1

Interesting for sure. I knew right away that La Pucelle was Koyuki's childhood friend, but I didn't expect it to be revealed so soon (I guess it was pretty obvious). I don't want to get my hopes up too high based on the premise alone, but the character designs are neat, and that ED was great. Now I just need to tell myself not to get attached to any of the girls.

If there's one thing magical girl shows taught me it's

to never trust the mascot

Quite a misleading 1st episode if you don't read synopsis and stuff lol. I expect some of my friends complaining once their best girl ends up dead or stuff

Episode 1

I feel like almost magical girl show is a rip-off of Madoka Magica. Thankfully, some of them take their town twists and Magical Girl Raising might just do that. Might.

Right now everything is starting off typical and decent with our main MC being sort of generic. I know a bloodbath of magical girls awaits us, but how it goes about it may or may not keep me around.

So I very much enjoyed this - however, I'm also a weirdo like Koyuki or especially Sou who would love this even if it turned out to be a completely typical and pure magical girl show.

And I just want to say that I really appreciate a character like La Pucelle. So far, I adore everything she represents, but maybe that's just because I identify with the mentality on some level.

I also adore Snow White's aspiration for purity and righteousness.

Everyone seems to hope this show will be a bloodbath. While I think that might be interesting, I'd be far more impressed if this turned out to be a psychological drama exploring each of the character's motivations and philosophies as magical girls. And, of course, if their philosophies lead to conflicts and breakdowns, then all the better. I say that already knowing that my attachment to La Pucelle might come back to bite me in numerous possible ways. Especially after School Live, I know that these people are talented at getting inside my head and messing with me. Introducing a character like La Pucelle seemingly targeted at people like me has me a bit on guard.

Going by the synopsis and the first scene, it WILL be a bloodbath Lerche is a weird company, as they can be hit-and-miss with how they get you attached to characters and how they psychologically mess with you. School-Live did a great job at it, but then they did a rather poor job of it with Danganronpa 3 with the Future Foundation. How much of this is up to Lerche and how much is up to the source material is up for debate, but they aren't perfect at it.

I would advise, however, not to get too attached to Souta/La Pucelle, because they're probably going to be one of, if not the first, people to kick the bucket. Between the combo of childhood friend, mentor, and not being in Snow White's life anymore, their survival chances are... rather low

Oh, interesting. So they're hit or miss with this kind of thing? I only really know them from School-Live, but I thought I saw something else about the staff on this one that piqued my interest. Maybe I'll look that up again. But even if they drop the ball on that front I'm still likely to be entertained, as horrible as that sounds.

Yea, i agree that things aren't looking too good for La Pucelle. The whole mentor thing in particular set off red flags. But deep in my heart, I still have a shred of hope. I feel like it's too interesting of a concept to do away with too quickly. But I don't have much experience with survival game shows, so maybe they do that intentionally. Magical girl shows - somewhat in my wheelhouse. Survival games - no idea how they usually operate.

Guess I'll see for myself with this one

EDIT

Oh, and I forgot the mention the art style. Really adore the character designs in this. Top tier stuff - distinct and eye-catching

After five years of waiting, it's (read this all in Jeremy Clarkson's voice) Madoka Magica's Facebok addicted, less Urubutcher-y, vaguely DanganRonpa like cousin! Simple beginning, cute, moe inspired character designs, this show is gonna get messy. Very very messy. At least it won't give the audience diabetes since one of the main characters is a guy transformed as a girl. Wish Crunchymation gave it a good simuldub. Oh wait, Sentai has it?! It's gonna be a long frikkin time til it gets one, if at all. Tragic.

..and the fact she the only magical girl other than our main char that had any char development! I don't think La Pucelle is long for this earth.

Thought it be fun twist if Snow White died. But I doubt they would do that..

Am I the only one who noticed that the first scene was in the game, not a flash forward?

I thought that at first, but it doesn't match the tone of the actual game from what we've seen. My guess is that the in-game monsters appear in the real world at some point to help "weed out" the number of Magical Girls in the region. I think that more so because I want it to get violent and dark - not sure if I could put up with it if it stays all flowers, sunshine, and unicorns for 12+ episodes.

Theory about a fast forward showing magical girls beign killed doesn't work in any way. There is simply too many body on the ground. more than 15, in fact. Furthermore, in this verse the magical girls have clearly colourful and extravagant clothes without any common point between the various outfits. The clothes on the ground seems not colourful, and not especially extravagant either.
doesn't seem to be mahou shoujo to me. None of the corpse resemble the mahou shoujo we saw, either.
