Episode 1

The last season ended on a massive cliffhanger as the winner of the SSS opening act contest wasn't revealed. In the end, the winner is Quartet Night, but they can't accept this win as Heavens was DQ'd due to a technicality, so they decided to do this contest over again. What a twist that was, and now Haruka is hard at work again.

Episode 2

And just like what happened in the past two seasons, the season begins with the first two episodes laying out the big event and what Haruka's assignment is, and then the next seven feature Haruka working a different idol or idol subgroup individually. The first season it was a member of Starish individually, the second season had each member of Quartet Night individually and the three Starish subgroups, and now it is a cross-unit featuring an idol from Starish and an idol from Heavens. First one up will be Tokiya and Eiji.

As for the rest of the episode, Reiji tries to have everybody in Quartet Night live together hoping to build bonds, but it didn't work out the way he had hoped it would, so he went missing. But his comrades were there to let him know that they are in this together. That sure was a solid way to set the stage for some more bonding within and between idol groups. And I like that this time, the ending does something different where in the previous seasons, it just featured the performance by Starish at the end of the season.

Episode 3

Here is the first of seven idol duos with Haruka writing a song for Tokiya and Eiji. The two get along quite well, almost too well to the point where Tokiya is being asked to leave Starish to join Raging's agency. But he realizes that Starish is where he belongs, and he wants to make it big with the guys he has spent a lot of time with, so of course he wasn't going to jump ship and become a part of the agency that manages Heavens. And that duet is very nice all going to show how much might those two have in their voices.

Episode 4

Next up are Syo and Yamato, and those two don't see eye-to-eye with each other in a disruptive way. So the two decide to make a bet and settle the score in a sports competition. The two are tied leading into the final event, a boxing match. It is there when Syo reaches out to Yamato as he forgot what being an idol is all about, and that is to bring smiles as idols have the burden of smiles on them. The animation sequence during the song with the two fighting it out is nicely done. So it ends in a double knockout and Syo gets what he wanted. Things were about to get ugly, but it's a great thing Syo got Yamato's head on straight.

Episode 5

Now it's Cecil and Shion as Shion is not willing to do anything that's not for Heavens. So he goes holing himself up and flat-out refusing to participate in the dual idol project not realizing that it would bring down both Starish and Heavens if he didn't sing with Cecil. So after some talk about how the two are shining in the same sky that he convinces Shion that they are still singing for their respective bands. And the person who pointed Cecil towards that thought was none other than Camus. That was nice of Cecil to get Shion to see things his way.

Episode 6

It's now Ren and Van, and this time it's the Heavens member who's more outgoing as Van is hitting on Haruka, or rather Ha-chan as he calls her, and Ren is none too pleased about it. So the two are part of a show where they are lawyers in a courtroom with Van raising the stakes in that whoever does better gets to have Haruka. Van ad-libs his part, and he totally wows everybody more so than what Phoenix Wright could ever come up with, but Ren responds nicely. In the end, Van realizes that nobody belongs to anybody, and together they sing. Van came across as being a jerk, but in the end Ren was able to bring him down to Earth. Everyday is an adventure! Life is for keeps! That certainly is something Phoenix Wright can't object to.

Episode 7

Next up are Natsuki/Satsuki and Nagi, and the focus here was all on the duo personalities of Natsuki as one side of him wants to participate in this violin duet project while the other, not so much. Things got pretty dicey there when Satsuki was clashing with everybody on Starish, but in the end Natsuki's personality wins out as Satsuki finally accepts him. And growing, indeed that's what happened.

Episode 8

Next up is Masato and Kira, who are both sons of big-time company CEOs, and has been ordered to make an emergency trip to Kyoto with his father having collapsed. But that wasn't the only reason as his father is demanding Masato to take over as the family head, and Masato enrolled at music school in order to get away from that. But in the end, with some help from Kira and Ren also making the trip to Kyoto, he mans up and lets his father know how he feels about his future through the song Haruka wrote for their duet. Way to get your message across, Masato, and he doesn't need that family anymore that only cares about the company's bottom line.

So with that, there's one more duet episode as only the Otoya and Eiichi pair is left, and they will be featured next.

I think episode 8 was my favorite so far this season.

Also, Masato in that formal kimono ensemble. <3

Too bad UtaPri isn't getting much love this season.

Episode 9

And now, it's the final idol duo as Otoya and Eiichi are up. Otoya has been having trouble writing something that is representative of his true self as he has been putting on a facade all this time to hid his sorrow and suffering. So Eiichi does something extreme to get him to finally be true to himself by holding a training camp together, and then showing one of his mother's paintings and throwing it into the fire. Eiichi sure did go overboard there, but nevertheless this is something that Otoya had to undergo as it's no wonder why he has been having a tough time writing his lyrics up to Haruka's standards.

So with that, the idol duo segment has ended and it's onto the SSS. I would have to think that the next three episodes focus on each band individually as Haruka is writing songs for all three bands, with the performances in the finale. It should go Quartet Night first since they were not featured in the idol duo segment, then Heavens, and finally Starish. I look forward to seeing what Haruka comes up with, but all three bands are in great hands.

Holy shit, episode 9. Wow. Eiichi actually mind broke Otoya. Utapri actually went there. This is the first time we have seen such a dark episode in Utapri thus far.

The tumblr fandom is in meltdown, by the way.

Episode 10

It turns out Otoya's story isn't quite finished, and it's no wonder why his story went last. From that camp, Otoya was just feeling out of it with overwhelming sorrow for his aunt. His parents died when he was really young and was raised by his aunt, but she also kicked the bucket a few years later and Otoya had been blaming himself for it. Raging sure is one insensitive guy as he sees this as an opportunity, but at least Eiichi only saw this as pursuing the ultimate song and nothing more. Anyway, that was nice to see Starish going the extra mile to bring him back with that video downtown, while also going to that wilted sunflower field that he promised to meet his aunt at. They never stopped believing, and now everybody is back as his Otoya is now taking everything into perspective rather than just putting on a facade that Eiichi exposed.
