Prolly a repeated thread kinda, but the questions might be different so bleh.

People across the globe are said to be 'addicted' to computer games. People have even died whilst playing computer games for extended periods of time.

What is computer game addiction? is it the drive to complete every game one owns? wanting to be the best at a game? Playing a game discarding other parts of your life, even going so far as to ignore social laws to do so?

When does playing computer games turn into addiction and how is it measured?

These are all questions posed by experts and gamers alike all over the world. There is no medical diagnosis for it and the psycological profiling of gaming addiction is sometimes hard to determin so how do we find out if we are addicted to our fave game?

Do you think your addicted to one?

Theres loads of serious questions that can be asked on this subject, Id like your opinions as gamers/anime lovers (cause this dun jus apply to games)

Whats your thoughts on this?

Sorry bout the million questions, hope they aint all been used before xD

People have died from playing video games for too long? Wow....

It's like how some people just get so obsessed that they do nothing else and become fat from playing too long. I don't understand that. It becomes an addiction when you put off daily chores and stuff like a job for it, though I don't think you could measure that.

I'm not addicted!

The sims can be addicting at times. I remember once I used to play the sims for almost twelve hours straight each day.

Very sad life isn't it.

Addiction is when you can't stop. Honestly I think playing a game and only playing a game is addiction, but some people do have social lives and are hardcore gamers...

Thats my point, wheres the line between 'hardcore gamer' and 'addicted'?

But would that make professional gamers addicts? Because they play for a reason other than fun. Personally, hardcore gamers are just hardcore gamers to me xD Game addicts are the very scarey people you see on sites like youtube, the ones where they go crazy and start screaming and smashing stuff up if they cant get onto a game or even just if they lose o_0

For me, THAT is addicted, nobody is THAT much of a sore looser >.>

I think these 2 reasons make up most of the gaming population:

1) Video/computer games provide the most sensory/mental stimulation with the least amount of physical effort. (basically televisions that require a bit more work yet providing more stimulation)

2) It's like a great day dreaming scenario or something that people use to get away from everyday stress. If you have a privately aggressive shooting personality, you play shooting games. If you want to role play and go on adventures and see pretty shit; you might play games like Final Fantasy(I think FF1-3 are basically not included since it merely covered a storyline and adventure. FFVII was the game that pushed FF over the emo limit. (Not that it was a bad game. It was great game. It just attracted all the romantic/emo/drama people who didn't really care about the gaming value of a "game". Merely the story and pretty people. )

yeh, i heard something like that and apparently his parents took away his computer or something so he jumped out his window and killed himself O.o

gaming addictions are pretty bad but if you can make the most of the obsession like get a job dealing with games or become a programmer or something then it's not so bad. but mygod i will NEVER touch WOW =.=
