I dont think this exist with much modern horror movies. Let me take one example. In the game called "The 7th Guest" from 1993, when games was primitive. There is a woman who hates being old and wished she was young, she eventually gets her wish, but then she becomes too young til she cries mommy and then she screams crawling like a baby. That is what i define psychological fear, things that scares you on the inside. In this case it may be fear of dying instead of doing the best of what you can, maybe its also to escape death but this is the type of things that deeply scare people in general.

When it comes to gore, i mean sure its yucky to look at and its not good, but its nothing compared to what terrifies you on that level.

Either way i am curious to your feelings on psychological fears. You can also google image it for some samples

Does being afraid of fear exist? I guess I could Google that, but I don't care enough to.

I can't stand masks or dolls. It's correlated to my fear of the unknown.

I really don't get the subject of the topic. Is it cinema or just fear as a mental process?

I think it's a combination of both.

Cinema has lost sight of how to do 'horror'. In fact it's not a genre anymore, and has been replaced with 'thriller' and 'suspense', which they do very, very poorly. The basis of doing it well is established through psychological fears, and the process through which people fear the unknowable.

I've been trying to find a good, or at least half decent lasting horror. Maybe I'm too much of an adult. Everything is body horror these days, or some weird suspense thing with jump scares that rarely work. Mainly because you can predict them a mile away.
