I've been against anything that trades plot for fan-service for a few years now.

Anytime I see that garbage I just drop a "Miyazaki was right."

Basically the anime industry is full of sexually repressed Otaku, most with very little social skills, who only know how to interact with other Otaku. And as a result we get "waifu bait," "bate bait," "Generic Harem Number 452," "'GET IN THE ROBOT SHINJI' main characters," and just panty shots. Panty shots everywhere. Even on the under-aged. Without joking and using a Dank 'Maim,' it's disgusting.

Is that a dig at Neon Genesis Evangelion? Seems a bit out of place in that comment...

I'm using a meme to make fun of weak-willed main characters, which has become a more prevalent thing as of late.

Ah

I guess I never really understood that meme. I knew about it going into watching NGE and I left thinking "what the hell was everybody complaining about? Shinji was a fantastic character."

I personally disagree with that. I don't really feel like pushing the issue beyond that though.

I did see the best of my time as kid growing up but I still watch anime now.. its not about that As I said there are still some really good shows that came out recently. like (attack on titan, Gundam iron blooded orphans, rei time zero, Season 1 of terraformers, an so on) but thats a few good shows that came on in a season. then 80 % of the rest are shows that have no plot. its just harems,..... or girly shows with panty shots. boys love as I said seems popular for some unknown reason... I just watched trickster. it seemed pretty good but to me that show revolves around boys love an it just ends up being annoying to watch. Just my humble opinion.. im sure there will be others who disagree and if you like this type of shows thats cool with me. just wanted to give my opinion on it.

The only thing that gets under my skin about nowadays anime is that studios make 12 cour seasons that, in many cases, don't continue. Leaving a lot of the fans wondering when is going to come back, or if its going to come back at all...

Mass production anime makes us watch a lot of new anime, but leave us a lot of times without any feel of closure.

Although, 300+ chapter animes aren't any better. Maybe finding a balance would be nice.

I'm sorry I just have to rant a little bit but what happen to anime.. When I was growing up You get great shows like yuyu hakusho, outlaw star, dragonball z, rurouni kenshi an so on. but nowadays nothing but these Girly anime shows are coming out or freaking magical girl.. yaoi type anime seems to be popular. I just dont get it. i dont even watch half the line up when shows come out anymore. unless an anime is hit like naruto or have ecchi scenes (tits an ass) showing they dont make it anymore. Are japanese viewers so freaking creepy they cant rate a good show when they see it anymore??? I know I'm not gonna like every show that comes out but to me it seems like 70% of shows that come out anymore are terrible. 20% are decent an that last 10% are good.. Just my opinion on matter though. like to hear everyone elses thoughts as well.

And for that reason, I have shifted more towards reading manga, light and web novels.

There are still good ones out there but I've stopped watching a lot of new anime since a couple years back and it really takes a lot of effort to convince myself to pick up and watch through an entire series that's already completed without already spoiling myself due to already reading the manga or light and/or web novel.

Not just your imagination. Anime creation studios are shitting alot of harem/loli animes and will continue doing so in hopes of finally making one that gains popularity and the reason for it is because they tend to get popular more easily and they are relatively low budget. This is also why the creator of Akame Ga Kill wanted to end the series sooner and get back to work on his harem mangas.

Basically the plan is to shit low budget animes till one catches on and then sell the merchandise like mad.

Does anyone not look anymore?

While it is annoying for fanservicey stuff to be around, it is what sells. There are good shows though that don't cater to anyone; 91 Days anyone?

91 Days was good. but because, as you said, it didn't cater to many, the animation quality really dropped. shame because the story was good

The problem isn't the lack of good anime the problem is that your taste in anime is too limited. Pretty much everything you name are action-heavy shonen or seinen anime and it isn't a surprise that many animes aren't like that.

I agree with what the OP is saying, this shift towards low budget 'fan service' anime is not something I welcome. Good storytelling requires both care and effort, especially when a studio wants that anime to sell lots of merchandise. Instead, so many studios today are taking the easy path and churning out the worst kind of garbage imaginable, creating an endless array of fan service shows that are both creepy and distasteful to say the least. In the end this shift is ultimately self-destructive, tarnishing anime's reputation internationally in a race to the bottom where no studio will be able to make a profit anymore.

The last good anime I truly enjoyed and completed was Sword Art Online I and this was back in 2014

Nowadays I keep dropping everything and have a hard time getting into new anime

I would suggest just sticking to manga for the most part. That's what I've done, I don't watch much anime on here anymore because of the OP's reason.
