Dengeki Daisy - interesting premise with comedy and drama
Orange - interesting, different premise
Black Bird (this one is a bit adult) - interesting premise with fantasy
Red River (a bit adult as well) - interesting premise as well with history and fantasy
Kimi Ni Todoke - very refreshingly written

i have read way too much shoujo manga over the years, and i've gotta say those 5 are the ones that have stood out to me the most.

I remember when Kimi ni Todoke first came out, and I was thinking how amazing it was. Now it's become one of the most popular shoujo of all time. So happy for its success! I'd probably like Red River since I love Fushigi Yugi.

me too! when i found it was becoming an anime i was so excited, and now its so popular, rightfully so. and yes try it out you will like it the art is a little old fashioned, though.

I love you, I totally understand you, Hirunaka no Ryuusei is one of my favorite manga's of all time, because the ending was perfect and I'm glad she ended up with the perfect person so sad it ended, Yosano Suzume was a unique main character for a shoujo, not a typical, and too much blush kind of girl.

In no real particular order I would say,

Cardcaptor Sakura
Fruits Basket
Yona of the Dawn
Ouran High School Host Club
Kamisama Hajimeshita

I consider them all to be fantastic series... Although I do think Cardcaptor Sakura will always be top for me. It's a classic.

Black Bird
We Were There
Ouran High School Host Club
Honey and Clover

Number 5 I'll leave in the air. I certainly have a couple to place here, but they're pretty much unclassifiable as one genre or another: From the New World and Eureka Seven.

It's so weird to me how a lot of the series in Asuka are very shonen....Like DN Angel. I don't consider it shoujo one bit, yet it's serialized in a shoujo magazine.

Yeah, agreed. Aya Shouoto's series are really the only ones from the magazine I've read that I consider prototypical shoujo. I tend to like what they serialize, but I'm sometimes surprised by what I find.

So little love for Sailor Moon here? anyway, some other shoujo manga that I may like are Peach Girl, Pretear, Rose of Versailles (my absolute favorite) and Princess Knight (the original shoujo manga made by no other than the father of Astro Boy known as Osamu Tezuka). I have been thinking of checking out Marmalade Boy for so long.

Out of the manga that I've read that actually ran in shojo magazines, the ones I liked the most are:

Skip Beat
Kimi Ni Todoke
Hana Kimi
Ouran High School Host Club
W Juliet

Haha, I just realized the last three all have female leads that dress as males. Chizu is probably my favorite female lead from Kimi ni Todoke and well, Kyoko is Kyoko. So that definitely says something about my preferences in female characters in shojo manga.

Btw I didn't notice your Pin avatar before. It's so cute! I love him.

Yeah, I like her. I just wonder why they publish series in Asuka that aren't shoujo, when they already have a shounen magazine...
