Geez i was looking forward to this second season before but then after watching Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc i was counting down the days, i really needed some sexy KyoAni slice of life to heal my heart. I was not disappointed either, a 48 min episode and i enjoyed it all.

The animation and backgrounds were god tier. I think this is a common opinion of the series, season 1 and now, but i cant think of any other anime that has such good light effects. By that I mean, the light shining on their face, through the window onto the chairs and room, and the light in their eyes etc. all of it is great.

Watching kumiko and reina being cute together again is like a physical experience as well. Just like Haikyuu when a super hype spike gets in and you get on your feet, i got on my feet when they held hands at the festival lol

Watching this episode and finishing it, I thought it was pretty good. Looking back at it and trying to find a screenshot to post. Fucking ay man. I loved this episode. Hype af for the rest of the season.

Great first episode overall, and still loving Kumiko's aloof IDGAF attitude.

Wow. That first episode was worthy of being a finale. Or even a standalone piece without even a series existing. Truly beautiful in so many ways. The drama is real and palpable and filled with tension. The growing relationship between Kumiko and Reina is also.

This didn't even stand a chance of not going immediately into the "will keep watching" section of my queue.

And so the second season begins. Totally worth the wait!

Once again the bassoons are drawn to near perfection. Honestly I wasn't expecting them to get much of an appearance in the first episode outside of the opening but several scenes had them with even a couple the sole focus. While they were the bit rougher hand-drawn versions (unlike the enhanced OP images) they were still spot on. When the one player was standing and they showed the keyguard I could only nod in approval.

It was also great seeing the oboe get some time. It's like the bassoon's younger sister. ^.^ Because both the oboe and bassoon are double reeds they often get put together for practice despite the oboe being treble and the bassoon being bass cleft. I guess they like to let the players commiserate on the difficulties of playing double reeds. =P

Would love to find a creditless version of this scene from the OP:

(I just really love the bassoon. In the right hands it's an amazing instrument with a very wide octave range.

Does anyone know the name of the piece Minami Middle School was playing during the flashbacks this episode?

Wow, I didn't notice it was 40+ min til it was over, it did feel kind of long. Well, so far I feel pretty much like I did from last season; it feels like there probably won't be any major divergence from S1. It really is a sequel, which may not be exactly what the show needs if it wants to draw in more viewers. They added new cast members which may need some time to shine it seems. Anyone else get the feeling the quiet girl is a ruthless yandere?

As for the actual show itself, I got this odd sense of boredom from the dialogue. Kumiko just isn't the best character to listen to for long dialogue scenes (my personal grudge). I also noticed that there's a massive amount of awkward silence. To make things worse, during dialogue there was empty silence in the background. It felt like they needed to put the soundtrack to better use in dialogue scenes. Maybe it was just a one-time thing, but I'll be keeping an eye on it going forward. At least they set the tone for the rest of the season in just a few scenes, it should get better in no time. Not sure why they keep showing Kumiko's sister though, does she even have an important role in the show?

From what I heard, it's 13 episodes this season, same as Spring but technically 14 episode with the double length premiere.

Thanks so much, listening to it now. That flute part is just so mysterious!

Ah, it looks like you beat me to it! I used to be in a band that played that piece, so I remembered that moment when I watched this episode!

I ended up watching the whole first season and the first episode of season two in a day and I really enjoyed it. Initially I hadn't realised that the first episode was nearly an hour long which was a nice surprise
