This is set between Strike witches season 1and 2 yes? Should I watch it second then?

1) Yes. 2) They do a pretty good set up at the start to explain the Witches universe and bring new viewers up to date. They've made one reference to Strike Witches so you may miss out on some callbacks but I don't think you'll need to have seen Strike Witches to enjoy Brave Witches.

As a huge fan of Strike Witches unsurprisingly I loved this first episode and am really looking forward to more.

I concur, you don't need to have watched Strike to enjoy Brave.

Though speaking of the Witch's universe.. Did you notice the title card? Artistically identical - but that added a subtitle "World Witches Series".

Brave also formally introduced something hinted at in Strike - national Witch forces as well as joint forces. That the war has progressed to the point, and they're desperate enough, for more Witches that they have formal schools rather than relying on individual recruiting was a nice touch.

It's unabashedly a fan service series (though toned down in the first here), and there are plot holes big enough to drive a battleship through... they do occasionally slip in nice touches like that.

Yes! I love seeing how the franchise has expanded.

I agree and normally I hate fan-service-y series but for me the fact that it's played with a total straight face redeems it. Most of the time. Occasionally they do go a bit too far.

I gotta admit, this was super average. Izetta is blowing the socks off this show currently.

I don't really think the two should be compared. While they are probably competitors to each other this season there should be a clear difference to what drives the appeal between the two. Not to mention, Izetta seems to take place in a more accurate historical timeline while the Strike Witches universe takes place in a significantly altered history.

Personally, I found the first episode of Brave Witches to be nothing short of awesome. I especially like that we're getting an underdog MC as opposed to one that is somewhat initially OP. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the series!

It should also be a given that a lot of fans to the original series are so hyped and excited for this one, we've literally been waiting for over a year since Operation Victory Arrow.

Yeah I guess it's not really the best comparison, apart from the premise being similar. Before each of them premiered, it seemed like Izetta was a cheap knockoff of Strike Witches, and was going for that crowd, plus the KanColle crowd. So I was just surprised at how good Izetta ended up being compared to this (imo).

I'm only about 3/4 through the first season of Strike Witches and one thing I'm happy about is that if you never watched Strike Witches you will still understand the show it seems. They did a good job of making this it's own show but also putting some Strike Witches bits inside.

I've been waiting for this one, for three years ever since i first heard of it. And hopefully it's worth it.

As a fan of Strike Witches, it makes happy to see some references to original series. And i guess it wouldn't be bad to see THEM making a appearance. Someday, maybe...

Anyway, good job so far. Can't wait for the next episode!

Brave Witches EP 1 “The Witch of Sasebo?”

Felt rushed but not bad / Animation was iffy especially at the start Strike Witches took longer to tell the story

ED Little Wing - Sprirt of Lindberg! performed by the show's cast

Does anyone know what's going on with episode 2? It's on the front page of CR but it's a dead link and the series page for Brave Witches only has episode 1 :s
They normally have a message if it's production delays or something...

Chances are, they didn't upload it properly.

Whenever I don't see it on my mobile device or twitter feed, then it's highly likely that you won't be able to watch it normally. We'll have to wait for CR to fix it.

And the episode is finally loading properly. I have to think that it was uploaded in the wrong place or something.

Episode 2

Takami sure is strong, but now she's on life support having used a strong technique that drained a lot of magical power, all while taking a really nasty wound. Hikari tries to fight in her place and while she was able to last long, she couldn't hit the core. And in comes the rest of the Brave Witches to the rescue. While Hikari wants to fight in place of her sister, she has her work cut out. That was nice to see Hikari standing up there, much like how Yoshika would always do. Next time, Hikari breaks into the unit as she has a lot of training to do.

My subtitles are coming in Portuguese, I think, despite language settings in English (US)

Yeah it's fixed now, I just hadn't seen an issue like this (where the frontpage was actually showing the new episode was available but nowhere else was) so I wasn't sure if it was a problem on my end or not. I should have thought to just check via the mobile app tbh...
