You know how some people refuse to believe that Yuri and Victor are a couple, saying that there is no proof given in the show (I don't know what they could want possibly want, btw, There's plenty of proof given in the show.)? Do you also remember Yuri and Victor's hotel room in Barcelona, where it looked like their beds may have been pushed together, but no one knew for sure?

Well, I was browsing through my Yuri on Ice art book last night, and found this image:

Yep, it's the Barcelona hotel room. And look-not only are the beds pushed together, but they've clearly marked the space where Victor's bed used to be. But an athlete and his coach always push their beds together right? It doesn't mean anything!!!

By the way, I used the Google translate app on the Japanese writing at the bottom right of that page. It translated as "Princess Hotel twin room". I googled Princess Hotel Barcelona, and the first thing you see on their web page is the pool where Victor and Christophe swam in episode 10.

That's cool - thank you! Great to get some more glimpses of the art book too.

Mmh, sorry to invalidate that theory about the artbook, but that arrow merely indicates in which direction the door is (ドア = door), same as there's written 'roll curtain (ロールカーテン)' on the curtain on the left of the picture. That's an indication for people working on the anime, such as animators or colorists, not an indication about who pushed the bed where, I'm pretty sure

Moreover, if you do an image search on hotels + barcelona + double room, you'll see plenty of rooms with two single bed put together like this.

I wasn't talking about the arrow and Japanese writing next to it (I used Google translate on that as well, and know it reads 'door'). I'm referring to the shading alongside of victor's bed, showing where the bed should be located. If the beds hadn't been pushed together, why would that heavy shading to the right of Victor's bed be needed in that drawing? I suppose it could be shadow, but it seems suspicious.

I did the image search you mentioned, and yes, there are photos showing what looks like rooms with beds pushed together. That may be a common thing in Barcelona. I don't know, having not been there. I have stayed in hotels with twin beds in other parts of Europe (London, Amsterdam, Budapest) and also in Peru, and the twin beds were always separated. I have seen hotel rooms with two twin beds pushed together to make one king bed, and that may be what's going on in those photos. Pushing two twins together to make a king makes the room more easily adaptable-you can easily convert it to accommodate what the guests require. That would be done for people who requested a king room. That this room is labeled a twin room suggests that it was drawn to be read as a room with twin beds, not a room with a king bed.

Regardless of all this, however, the drawing does clearly show two beds pushed together. If the room has two twin beds, they wouldn't need to be pushed together, and likely would not be if the people staying in the room were not a couple. Would you want to sleep in the same bed with a coworker on a business trip?

The bigger issue isn't even one of beds anyway. It's that Victor and Yuri are most definitely a couple, and that is made obvious when watching YOI. People who can't see that because it wasn't stated explicitly in the dialog are either in denial or completely unable to read body language and non-verbal storytelling.

I'd have to agree, though I noticed the beds thing too when I first watched. There are clues everywhere as to their developing relationship, though I'd have to say the kiss is pretty overt. I've read fanfics in which things took a long time to progress afterward, but they either weren't very believable IMO, or they involved colossal miscommunication romcom types of errors. Then there's the airport reunion scene, and the rings, and so many other things that add up. Besides, in the live shows that Kubo & co. have put on since, they've made it clear that the two of them are in love - and are possibly even married - in the little skits they wrote.

I still think the main source of trouble coming up is going to be from Victor over-extending himself by making his comeback at his age plus coaching Yuuri at the same time, with Yuuri's anxiety possibly still an issue, though I could be wrong. I'm also not sure what they'd decide to put in a film vs. in a full second season. Any thoughts?

Just wanted to let all of you know... I went to Crunchy Roll Expo this year and it was amazing! I hope they have it next year! Lots of focus on Yuri On Ice!
...Also, it was nice to hear that Olympian Ice Skater Johnny Weir say that he especially loved the romance between Victor and Yuuri most.

You know, to defend this anime, specifically with reference to the animation shortcuts, this is more of a question, but why should I care? Of course, shortcuts are taken, but I do not find them noticeable before or after. I like the visuals, I like what I am seeing in terms of animation movement and detail. The idea that we should reward hard work is one I can accept, but not awarding it to otherwise quality work misses the point. I think hard work is negligible past a certain point if the results are this great.

I saw some photos of him from that.
What kinds of things did they have at the Expo?

Otsuka Manabu already stated in panel on Anime Midwest that, yes, the director (Sayo Yamamoto) wanted to delevelop their relationship into romance. https://mobile.twitter.com/hanleia/status/887456334001586177 Funny thing is, this statement leaked around 1 week or 10 days after the panel. And actually, anything shared to audiences on the panel shouldn't be shared anywhere. But yeah, I honestly happy that this one is leaked.

On Go Yuri Go, Sayo said that she has to fought so the kiss scene can be inserted, while everyone agaisnt her for it. https://mobile.twitter.com/hanleia/status/880644606328676352

I hope people will recognize her more. Sadly she doesn't have any social media.

Other than the usual stuff from various vendors (cute plushies of iconic or lesser known series, otaku shirts, hats, trinkets, and jewelry), they had a large CrunchyRoll booth where some of their Yuri On Ice items that they have now begun to sell on their online store were. You could also see a couple of the figures that are due to be released later this year/next year in person (i.e. Yurio Nendo). I was a VIP Plus, so they gave us a lot of free CrunchyRoll swag (too much in fact), and if you are a premium member, you got to choose a bag with an anime print on it (of course I chose the Yuri On Ice one).

The artist alley was HUGE, over 200 artists present (I counted). There was some Yuri On Ice fanart, but not as much as I'm used to seeing here on the east coast.

And, of course, there were awesome guests (i.e. Yoshitaka Amano, the voice actors for FFXV, and other media/industry people).

Johnny said a lot of interesting things about Yuri On Ice and his career at his panel. He said that the show was like "Johnny On Ice" because so many of his routines and outfits were referenced to. He worked with and did some choreography for Kenji Miyamoto in the past as well. He was also very funny--as always. Someone asked him if he liked good Yuuri or bad Yuuri, and he answered, saying he likes the good, soft Yuuri. He also admitted his crush on Victor, his dislike of JJ (LOL), and his awkwardness with Christophe (though I'm sure he said this on his twitter months ago ).

Overall, it was a really good convention and I'm hoping they'll have it again in 2018. It's worth it (and I won't be surprised if they'll have more Yuri On Ice stuff due to the fact that the movie will be coming out around the time of the Winter Olympics).

Thanks for sharing that, it was nice to read. Good to know that the romance was planned and unambiguous.I always suspected that, but it's nice to see it confirmed.

As much as I love Mitsurō Kubo for what she's done with YOI, I would like to see Sayo Yamamoto recognized more as well. I think a lot of it is her lack of social media presence (although I understand her reluctance to it and support her right to privacy). Kubo is really outgoing, and her Twitter and Instagram feeds make her the face of the YOI creators, but it's Yamamoto who came up with the idea, spent years developing and pitching it, hired Kubo to write it, collaborated on the story, and directed the entire series. She deserves at least as much credit as the wonderful Mitsurō Kubo.

Is that release date confirmed? I really hope it's true, but haven't seen anything besides speculation about the release date.
