Lol the only experience I have with large poodles is that my parents neighbor has one (who had puppies) and they are all jerks who bark constantly and never shut up. The poodles in the show are much cuter and well behaved.

I hate that so many people have debated this kiss between Yuuri and Viktor... or the possibility of a gay relationship period (i.e. bisexuality vs homosexuality)...
But I would say that episode 9 is very... well... reassuring that they are quite... emotionally invested, to say the least...
I want to hug everyone too! LOVE WINS!

...Also... just one more thing...

I can't help but to feel uncomfortable that this show is still being called entertainment for "fujoshi"... because I'm a gay man and my lover and I are enjoying it...
It's kind of unfair that whenever there is an anime featuring intimacy between men it is immediately an anime for "women." I mean, yes, my female friends do love whenever they see my fiance and I being romantic, but that's not a bad thing because love isn't a bad thing.
I never liked the term "fujoshi." And yes, there are people who fetishize my sexuality (as does the porn industry itself), which makes me mad, but if everyone is happy watching something such as positive as Yuuri's and Viktor's relationship, does it really matter how it is enjoyed? One way is not superior than the other.
In a way, we all want "proof," but isn't love about perspective?
Warm words, embraces, and kisses are usually viewed as ways we show someone that we care for/love them, but how can you determine if something is "romantic" love? We can't. Personally, I think Yuuri is desperately trying to show HOW he loves Viktor, and I choose to believe in them!
If things don't turn out the way I hope they will, it is still a revolutionary anime (beyond "queer-baiting," another word I am not fond of) and I only hope there are more shows that go beyond what they have done with this one (if possible due to Japanese censorship)!

Much love!

I'm glad you touched this topic because I've seen a lot bulls**t not only from non-fans of YOI but from fans and gay people who complain about it.

Relationships between two men have always been a huge taboo in Japan (and around the world) more so than relationships between two women.

Yaoi started off as a genre made by women for women but it has progressed throughout the years and now we have MANY male mangakas who create yaoi and yaoi can be enjoyed by anyone, male or female (or any non-binary person).

Sadly, yaoi haters utilize this definition "made by women for women" to call it fanservice and to attack every possible gay couple. They call the fans of yaoi "fujoshis" (I hate that word so much! it's like non-anime fans calling us weird otakus) as an insult.

The thing is, before Yuri on Ice, we would only see confirmed gay couples in the genre called YAOI (or shounen ai/ BL). It is the first time that a non-yaoi anime has a gay couple (we also have No.6 but their relationship was also never confirmed so some people see it as a gay couple and others as fanservice even though there was a kiss).

Many non yaoi fans are watching YOI because of the sport and they can't accept the fact that a beautiful gay couple is being portrayed in a non-yaoi anime so they call it fanservice/queer-baiting and won't be satisfied until they see a kiss or something that confirms the romantic love.

Even some people who love yaoi are calling it fanservice.

It is frustrating.

But here comes the most frustrating part:

Gay people disregarding YOI and every yaoi show as a fetish. I have seen many gay men saying they hate YOI (and yaoi) because it is an insult to them. So I'm GLAD that you as a gay man are enjoying this anime and you're not getting offended over it.

Then we have the people who love YOI but hate yaoi. They say that Victor and Yuri represent a healthy gay relationship and I agree! but I don't agree when they hate on yaoi by saying that yaoi is only about sex, rape, seme/uke etc. Excuse me but I have read many beautiful yaoi mangas with gay relationships that are healthy and romantic, even more than YOI.

YOI is called "revolutionary" only because it is not tagged as a yaoi but if we are talking about the story and gay relationships, I have seen yaoi mangas that are more revolutionary.

My point: you can't please everyone. There will always be a hater so it's better to ignore them.

There are some haters here that I have decided to ignore.

I don't care if Victor and Yuri never kiss or say 'I love you'. I'm quite satisfied with what I have seen (but I will not complain if they do )

Back to the anime, I couldn't help but notice that JJ's girlfriend has black hair (she's a beauty!) but JJ appears in the ED with a hot blonde! what a player!!

Here are the numbers:

SP
1. JJ - 113.56
2. Yuri - 109.97
3. Yurio - 98.09
4. Seung Gil - 91.83
5. Michele - 89.65
6. Emil - 82.43

FP
1. JJ the King
2. Yurio - 199.87
3. Michele - 193.24
4. Emil - 189.15
5. Yuri - 172.87
6. Seung Gil - 164.37

Final
1. JJ the King
2. Yurio - 297.96
3. Michele - 282.89
4. Yuri - 282.84
5. Emil - 271.58
6. Seung Gil - 256.20

....Yea, Yuri lost out on 3rd by 5 one-hundredths of a point . Based on his SP and the jumps he did in his long program, JJ probably would have scored close to or possibly higher than Yuzuru Hanyu's FP record of 219.48 and total of 330.43 but I guess we don't get to know . Overall, Yuri is actually pretty consistent with his scores. He only scored slightly lower than he did in China on the free program. The competition was just that much better in Russia.

Yuri's scores:

Location
Japan
China
Russia

SP
93.56
106.84
109.97

FP
165.20
176.98 – 178.76
172.87

Final
259.56
283.82 - 285.75
282.84

For the overall Grand Prix qualifiers, the point spread went like this:

Name
1. JJ
2. Otabek
3. Chris
4. Yurio
5. Phichit
6. Yuri
7. Michele
8. Seung Gil
9. Emil
10. Georgi

Tie-breaker is the highest placement that they got in either competition. There was an error in Crunchyroll's subs in ep 8. Michele & Seung-Gil 1st qualifier points were switched which actually would have made Yuri not qualify. Bad Crunchyroll. I threw Georgi in there for the fun of it. But basically, JJ is king

I'm like Yuri. I missed Victor so much this episode. It's just not as fun without his funny faces and super clinginess. Yuri is not allowed to retire at the end of the Grand Prix like he mentioned. Then we wouldn't be able to get a season 2.

This episode's hugfest had me in stitches haha
Shame this is the last we see of Emil. He's a pretty endearing dude.

I give mad props to the whole Michele subplot. I like how the show denounces his creepy attitude towards his sister (mostly how it depicts it as ultimately immature) but also humanizes him and doesn't treat him like a bad person. Just a guy who really needs to grow up.

It's just like Georgi was portrayed as pathetic regarding his entitlement issues with his ex, but this episode shows he's a decent guy once he gets past that.
