Plot Summary

In rugby, there is no ace striker, there is no number four batter, so who is the star of the team?

The story begins at school entrance ceremony of Kanagawa High School where Kenji Gion, a small but gutsy go-getter joins the rugby club. He joins with his classmate, Iwashimizu, who has a complicated past and sub-captain Hachiouji, who always takes good care of his Club members. Lastly, there is Captain Sekizan, who has overwhelming powers but keeps his cards close to his chest. With such differences in both personality and physical performance, the team must learn to work and grow together so they can become the best.

Episode 1

Gion is putting on the Edward Elric act there lashing out at those who call him short. After meeting Iwashimizu, he gets a look at the sport of rugby that looks fun, but not something for a small fry like him. However, there is a place for someone like him on the team and while GIon joins, Iwashimizu doesn't. As it turns out, Iwashimizu accidentally injured his best friend Miyuki, and he doesn't want to hurt anyone again. But with Gion, he won't let that scare him. That was a solid start there, though the execution was a bit sloppy.

Episode 1

Good start so far, the OP song works fine imo for the series.

The comedy is funny so far imo, especially with how Gion interacted with others.

Animation quality looks decent by Madhouse. They didn't get much into the rugby yet but seeing as it's a 2-cour, they have plenty of time to. I haven't read too much into the manga so pretty curious to see how the rest of the episodes will play out. There's some emotions already so I also expect more drama to build up between classmates and rugby.

I was wondering how long it would take them to make a new Rugby anime following the match last year.

Episode 1

A simple and basic start for a sports anime.

Everything felt introductory with very little added to it besides that. I do look forward to seeing where this will go, but for now, nothing stands out and nothing is bad.

Just an average start.

Pretty good first episode. Not great, but definitely good. Looking forward to Edward Elric's Rugby Adventure.

From the promotional image, their coach looks like a total gangster. We'll see how things turn out.

The first episode was pretty average but the characters are fun. As long as I have enough time I'll watch it.

Might watch this.

And I think one of my brothers was on a rugby team when he was at a naval academy.

I really enjoyed the first episode!

Yeah it was a basic start for a sports anime, but I feel that that's just what it needed to be. It is very in-line with Kuroko's Basketball, Haikyu!! and Ace of Diamond. So people who enjoyed that will probably like this.

The basis for character development has already been laid (Gion wanting to prove himself, Iwashimizu-kun's fear of the game after injuring his friend). And there's a huge cast - so plenty of characters to flesh out. I'm looking foward to it~♪

(bias that my favorite voice actor is staring in this aside heh heh heh)

Ah I was hoping Madhouse would come swinging with the first ep, to go toe to toe with all the great first eps so far. the Start was ALLright for All Out, just not inspiring the same hype I would have wished for, but I don't want to knock that against the show, since most of my most hype sports anime did have this kind of setup.

So can't wait to see what is in store for the rugby hype.

Not to sound like an old fart, but this takes me back to Grade 9 and 10. Those red and black jerseys are pretty similar to those we wore at my High School, but we wore black shorts instead. This episode brought back a lot of fun memories learning about Rugby as I was in a similar position when I started playing... didn't even know what it was at first. Great anger/stress release mechanism for a teenager, though .

The part when Gion asked for the rules to be explained.... oh boy. Could be there awhile. I remember everyone would joke that the only rule of Rugby is that no one knows (all) the rules of Rugby.

Iwashimizu's explanation of the game was on point.... almost brings a tear to my eyes .

Awesome to see it's listed for 25 episodes.
