And here we have Keijo but for those who are more into dudes. Not bad at all though I'm not totally into the art style. There's clearly a lot of effort put into it but I found the look a little off putting at times. Gion also seems to be more on the annoying male protagonist side of things as well. Can't say I'm in for the whole season but I'll at least give it a little more time.

Well, if there's any sport that involves ball and it doesn't have anime, it suppose this just that.

Gotta respect those two. A tall guy who's rather shy... and has a tragic past. Then a short guy who's quick tempered. Makes a great duo.

So, for those sports-loving souls who have seen both, would you say this has a stronger or weaker start than Yowapeda (still my genre fave)?

Man, season 3 of Haikyu and this coming out, what an exciting week for sports anime.

I'm on auto-love for this, coming from New Zealand and rugby being my favourite sport. I don't think a rugby anime can necessarily come out swinging straight away, unlike baseball, basketball and soccer animes, this anime will need to gradually educate non-rugby fans about what rugby is about and will have to ease into that, which is cool.

I love sports anime

but
I really dont like these character designs . I know , thats how the mangaka made it but it would be same reason why I wont read or even pick up the manga.

I might have to skip this one until I can watch it without getting annoyed.

thank goodness I got my fav voleyball Haikyuu and the new ice skating Yuri on Ice to fill my sports anime needs

and hands down ... Yowamushi pedal has a stronger start for me. That emotional scene at start here didnt really affect me at all, its too fast to get emotional when we are just knowing the characters.

Sad some people won't watch this because of character designs I feel like I don't care about the designs or animation to enjoy a good story....it's like video games for me.

I read the manga and I find it fun.

Episode 2

Episode 2 was okay, felt like pacing is a little slow though. We got training and buildup for an upcoming match.

One thing I do want to mention is that Gion is the type of guy that isn't afraid to take on challenges so he always seems confident about what he faces.

Can't wait for the upcoming match.

Episode 2

A fine episode for sure.

Pacing is a bit too smooth, but to introduce characters along with build development, time is needed to help build that structure. Looking forward to the game itself and how it affects the team

Weaker start to yowa, I still need to watch so 2...but ep 1 of this is a bit on a lower tier to the premier of the recent sports anime.

I loved the episode. Not sure I have seen such big Japanese characters in any show kinda different and fresh sport.

This show is strangely good at mixing gar and moe.

Still a bit of a slowburn. This episode introduces the cute and cool manager (fun fact: in an all boys anime, the rare girl is usually great) and Totally-Not-Yoichi-Hiruma. And we get the first real game next week, let's see if the show succeeds at what arguably matters the most.

Gotta learn tackling 101. Gotta stay low.

Looking forward to the game next week.

I honestly thought Gion was going to use his height to go between his leg and grapple him down, but I guess that works too. His character is so small, though, that I could see him getting a nice stiff-arm every time in a real game.

They are trying to introduce the game bit by bit in a friendly manner for those who haven't played. I wonder how many people looked at the position chart and were super lost, haha.

I think the pacing is good and it helps that it is listed as 25 episodes on MAL (so taking a few episodes to try and teach the basics isn't going to ruin the overall experience). Heck, they've introduced the first rival team and it's still early. I'm going to take a stab and say Gion helps Iwashimizu overcome playing his friend that he injured.

I want to like it more than I do, but I'm just not getting into the characters at all. I know it's doubtful, but hopefully they'll stop focusing so much on Gion as he's so annoying he's bringing the whole show down. The art style and quality also still feels really inconsistent from moment to moment.

Ah much better from episode 1, still a bit lukewarm on the cast, but I can see myself fully enjoying it over time.
