Cheating Craft
available here on Crunchyroll.

Premise: There are Cheaters and there are Learners and basically, they need each other to survive. Or something like that.

Having watched one episode, so far I can say that this is one of the more satisfying "shorts" this season, and that may be in part due to it being 12 minutes instead of 2. However, unlike with some of the 2-3 minute shows, I still don't have any real idea where this is going. Thus far it seems to be a rather scathing commentary on the current state of education and the exam system, but that was conveyed entirely through narrative exposition, and the whole thing felt rather like some dramatic introduction to a nature documentary. The visuals were enjoyable, and the concept piques my interest. I'll just have to watch more to find out.

It's good as commentary but I found it pretty terrible as anime. It just wasn't enjoyable at all to me and if you're talking about it as commentary then I pretty much got their entire message in the first 2 minutes anyway. I'll probably give it one more episode to see what it's like when the actual main characters are involved but I don't have high hopes.

Episode 1

This feels just like the first test of the Chunin Exam where the idea is to cheat without being caught, at least those who opt to try and cheat their way to the top. It was all commentary and background info, so I'll at least watch the next episode to see if it is worth watching or not. But given the production team, I don't have any hopes or expectations for this.

I remembered reading a Chinese Manhua with the same title, not sure if it's the same one..it probably is, but I'm just not sure. It looks so different from the Manhua. It was funny to some extend, but not sure where this is going. Might stick around for another episode to see if it gets interesting

Yet another in the "WTF did I just watch?" column this season... But yeah, let's see what happens when we get to the actual plot.

Very silly premise; but it could turn out to be interesting if they focus on the cheating/battle part to pass this exam.

After the first episode I feel like this will be an entertaining anime but it will probably end up a bit generic too.

Episode 2

And now, the story really begins after the first episode was all info dumping. These exams are a battlefield where the room is booby trapped and the proctor is quite a tough man, even when he is drunk. He paralyzed everybody making it tough for them to continue on. But all it took was a poisonous bug to enter his jug of booze, and with Mumei's slice and copy technique, he passes the entrance exam. That was rather entertaining to see this gimmick put into action. And now, Mumei meets a cute girl and it will be interesting to see what her deal is.

Episode 3

Last time, Mumei met a cute girl Haku and now they have a test where the proctor is a mammoth who leaves test takes out in the cold. But even worse is the way he accuses Haku of being a cheater with that pen of her's and while it is made for cheating, it only contains a photo of her parents as this pen means everything to her. So she retakes the test as not only does she need a perfect score, but the problems are far more advanced. Even so, she has proven herself as a L-type, though that lady who was proctoring that exam might have rigged the grading. That was a decent story there and certainly this episode had more depth than the first two did.

Episode 4

It starts off with an exam on an airplane and those who cheat or can't handle the turbulence are ejected from craft. At least Mumei managed to get by because of a malfunction that shouldn't have happened, but nevertheless he isn't quite please with the way the test went as he didn't get a chance to scout out the sexy proctor. So Mumei is off to buy a pen that looks just like Haku's and he ends up getting into a BL situation with the pen seller Shuu, but despite being tempted into buying one of those fancy pens, he resisted it and bought the pen he wanted all along. That was quite over-the-top and crazy there, and while there were some parts I liked, others just were unnecessary and degrading.
