Does anyone know who's directing? It says Shinbo, but I don't believe it's him.

Perhaps Oishi is directing? Miyamoto maybe? Hmm... Itamura could be doing it too!

Very interesting stuff. I'm honestly not sure if I like it or not yet, but I'm definitely intrigued by it. The dalliances into wackiness and humour are a little off putting in a show that otherwise appears to be so serious but, unlike many other shows (like, say, last seasons Taboo Tattoo) it really feels like the schizophrenic nature is fully intentional. It feels like the out there moments are intended as a commentary on the MCs mental state. Definitely be back next week for more.

Shameless self-promotion. Good job Shaft.

Gorgeous art and interesting storytelling. The pacing is just on the cusp of boring, but the art and emotional weight keep it from quite getting dull.

I got hopes for this one.

The MC is a jerk (yeah, sad backstory, blah-blah-blah, but a jerk is a jerk). I'm thinking that part of the storyline is that he becomes less of a jerk as it goes along.

I don't normally notice the art unless I find it really bad or really good. I noticed it here because overall the art was 'ok'. Nothing to write home about. But here and there was some really (really!) fuzzy, ugly stuff. It was so bad it had to be on purpose, but I don't know what that purpose might be.

Other than the MC actually improving (as in not sleepwalking thru his life and becoming less annoying), I have hopes for this because I think the plot will be good. That and I'm coming to really like the girl's personalities.

Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

I have no idea how he seems like a jerk.

The summary reminds me of ... a VN from the '90s that I am not going to mention because it is eroge (involving three sisters and a sketchy main character), but the execution is certainly what I have come to expect from Shaft (i.e. it's good, if just a bit odd).

Lost me with the self-hating protagonist and the sudden mood switch from gloomy tone poem to HYPER WAI WAI KAWAII. I have very low tolerance for characters as emo as the main character here.

March Comes in Like a Lion / 3-gatsu no Lion “Chapter 1 Rei Kiriyama / Chapter 2 The Town Along the River”

The story looks good too bad the sound tried to be artsy Seems terrible to me! So I lost half the episode . I am not even sure about the animation I may be annoyed from the sound ! Not what I expcted from Shaft.

WTH the SFX louder than the dialouge / then the vocals stepping over each other then the subs were missing or didnt match up

OP /EDBump of Chicken too bad it was muddied over

So who to BLAME !! BTW I read on a blog site that author Chica Umino wanted Shaft when J.C Staff did a good job with Honey and Clover ( 2 different publiishers for both series! ) and may have been forced to take Shaft ??

Episode 2

What a jerk that Nikaido is not only breaking into his mailbox, but to open the letter that is not addressed to him. So Rei has his first match of the qualifier tournament against Issa, and he's a crazy guy, but all that energy couldn't topple Rei. After the match, Rei, Issa, and Smith all meet up with Akari at a fancy night club, and Rei gets wasted. Then Rei crosses the bridge to go grocery shopping and he ends up running into the sisters who aren't too pleased about him loading up on instant ramen. Through this, Rei realizes just how much the sisters mean to him. Another nice episode here, and Shaft's style sure does work like a charm when it comes to the shogi matches/

Episode 2

Omg, Akari... <3 <3 <3

As I continue to watch this series, I can clearly see Shaft's style more and more, which makes me look forward to Kizumonogatari this month even more.

I'm also grateful that this show is going to length to dive into these characters and showing us that there is more to them. Animation and monologuing helps a lot in that regard.

I definitely think this will be show of the season or season since it will have 25 eps. For now, it's looking good so far. Also, can I marry Akari already? Wow!

Akari is waifu af and all the sisters are very heartwarming despite what we are led to believe is that they lost their mother and father just like rei. They are in similar situations but the sisters have each other and their grandpa while rei doesn't have anyone. Akari being as amazing as she is and as waifu as she is probably notices this and welcomes in rei so they can all depend on each other and help each other move on and be happy.

Rei monologues that he had been in a daze ever since his parents' accident and he uses shogi as an escape, he says that he doesn't know quite when he regained his composure or got out of that daze, and the answer is he probably most likely hasn't yet.

The OST was really feels good this ep and it was all very pretty as expected :)

What a great story love the depth of character explanation. Great idea while playing in the shogi match to have music start speeding up as Rei slowly starts to dominate. Nice anime so far love how they have the cats talk for a nice touch
