lolol did Akari just help Rei throw-up with her fingers xD.......?

Anyway ahhhhhh, still in love...the quality soundtrack is so chill. That sublime Shaft imagery to top it only makes each scene better *___* . Akari is beautiful and I need to see a interaction of Poco from udon with Momo, it would be cuestness overloooooad.

Such an excellent show from top to bottom. If I had to name a flaw it would just be the faces as I find them a little odd, but that's more of a stylistic issue than a quality one. Everything else is pretty much bang on amazing.

In a way it's sort of reminding me of Kakeru in Orange. Not in that Rei and Kakeru are necessarily the same character as much as they are both fairly well constructed characters dealing with deep seated depression. It's so nice to see this sort of thing get explored in a way that isn't just "depressed character is mopey and sad all the time" like you so often see in media.

Momo and the cats stole the episode for me, they're so adorable.

It's nice to learn more about the sisters, in this case Akira, and to have new characters slowly get introduced (mainly other players it seems).

Honey and Clover was the other title that felt similar to this , before I knew about Chika Umino .
I kept saying, I have seen this art before .

The animation is wonderful ,. the characters are well written for. The focus is the characters and Shogi is part of him and not just about Shogi . Very similar to Shin no Ou
We get to see abit more about Akari and abit more about his past .

Episode 3

Rei and Harunobu square off, and those two go way back as Rei was calm, cool, collected, and arrogant while Harunobu lost his composure. Things are different this time around with Harunobu having improved his game and taking all day to settle, and in the end Rei wins again. Then it's back to the house where Hina is out all alone crying for her mother. This show just keeps on delivering as Rei continues to get to know everybody.

Episode 3

Oh, the feels.

The show really goes out of its way to depict these characters as human as possible due to how they act and behave. Of course animation by shaft along with dialogue helps with that too.

There are also moments where one can relate to these characters because of personal experiences and such, which makes me appreciate this series so much.

Beautiful episode.

It hits you hard in the gut with both the calm and the suffering.

And when you catch a character who usually had been all smiles and cheer, falling in that moment of unbearable grief, the feels becomes unavoidable.

I have just started watching this tonight. I didn't watch any animes last season, so I'll give this a shot.

It actually drew me in with the moody tone and depressed main character, but threw me off with the manic-depressive shift to the highly energetic light-hearted sections. While I felt the latter was going to detract from the show, the weird cats finally sold me on it. Also, Momo is so adorable. I was totally like the grandfather any time she was on-screen.

One other thing that threw me off a little was the moe/waifu stuff. My gut reaction was "uggh, another one" and I felt it didn't really add to the story at first, but I'll get used to it. Still, it's not my cup of tea.

I'm really digging the OP and ED by Bump of Chicken. Funnily enough, it popped on the radio station I listen to as I was getting ready for bed tonight. It was a nice bonus.

All in all, it's not what I was looking to watch, but I'll stick with it. It seems more down my alley than most of the other shows this season.

Solemnly Beautiful. Only possible way I could describe the episode.

Dealing with loss, is just unexplained as it can only be experienced. Shaft captured it perfectly.

I posted this in another thread last night, but if anyone is interested BUMP OF CHICKEN made a music video for the ED featuring the characters two years ago. It's pretty cool how they've been fans for years and now one of their songs that they connected to the manga is being used in the anime.
