It doesn't matter how many hundreds or thousands of dollars you pour into turning your apartment into a cat playground it will inevitably be spurned for a $1.50 cardboard box.

No! I have a house and omg I want to do that so bad. Cats who are up high are healthy cats. You want tree dwellers and not cave hiders. Cats hiding under the bed and in litter box is not a good thing. It means they're not happy and comfortable. Building perches around the house for them to travel around on is a good thing for them. This person has turned it into an art form it seems. I wouldn't mind doing some of that for my cats to be honest.

Isn't that what the outside is for?

Outside is for dying and disease. Inside cats are much happier and safer. City or country is bad for cats. Dogs, cars, owls, coyote's, the list is endless. As someone who has both inside and outside cats I know for a fact my inside cats are much happier. They spend more time playing and having fun whereas my outside cats spend more time hiding and avoiding predators. If I could bring them all in I would. I have quite the house full atm.

If I had a house, yes. In my apartment no. My landlord would throw a hissy fit. I do have my apartment set up in a way the cats can still get up high if they wish by jumping on the top of cupboards, the top of doors and the top of window sills. Also they have one room with boxes, toys, a small cot and tons of other kitty stuff to keep them active and happy that is just for them. No unknown humans allowed.
