Just look at player population stats for Battlefield 4 (BF being a series that originated on PC).
http://bf4stats.com/ It's the same for other games from Dice (BFH, BF3 and Starwars Battlefront) : those games have systematically more players on consoles than PC. |

I personally feel its easier to get into PC gaming than console gaming, even it isnt a great computer most people already have one, be it for school or work its already there. While you would have to invest a good chunk of money on a console thats purely for entertainment and brings nothing else to the table. Not to mention all the MMO's and other games you can play for free. Then again... it feels like mobile gaming has been beating both lately...

Is Nintendo only releasing handheld/mobile games? They're the (fairly consistently) weakest selling home console, and if the canary isn't dead, the mine's probably safe for the time being.
While I think it's becoming easier and more cost-efficient to game on PC than ever before, I don't see home consoles going the way of the dodo anytime soon. |

They're not dead, it's just PC has seen a resurgence and is now by far the biggest gaming platform in terms of sales. Worst case console gamers will see fewer exclusives from triple A publishers cause it's ridiculously expensive and they can't afford to pass on the revenue..

Hell no. I'm always playing on consoles. I don't have a super PC. It's too expensive to me and... well overall, i don't like playing on PC, even though it's possible to use a Xbox 360 controller for example.

I doubt consoles are going anywhere since they are the cheaper option to play games, not to mention the only place you can play certain games. Simply put consoles make too much money for them to go anywhere and are more easily accessible to the masses. Consoles are hardly a cheaper platform to game. Sure, the entry price is lower, but the price of PC games is much lower, and sales are commonplace through the year. Not to mention, you don't have to buy the entire thing again when a new generation of tech comes around, only update your GPU, and if too old, your CPU (and maybe MoBo) and you're set. I haven't upgraded my GPU in 4 years and it still goes strong with 1080p 60FPS with high settings on most games.. Sure assuming the person can upgrade it themselves. Many people are not comfortable doing such things. Plus a new GPU upgrade (depending on if you prefer AMD or Nvidia) can cost you $400, add another ~$100+ for motherboard (depending if you want to overclock) and a CPU (once again another $200 or so depending on preference) and it adds up to more than a console will generally cost. This You guys lost me almost instantly |

Please if it weren't for Visual Novels I'd have thrown out my PC years ago. As it is my Alienware laptop is more then sufficient to run it. And I have a NES , the thing came out in 1985 for fucks sake. And it still works like the day it was made. The thing is 30 years old and it will play any cart I throw into it. Consoles have an operational life that far exceeds anything PC offers. I mean shit does that DOS using PC you had as a kid still even turn on? Do you even still have it?
When a PC can offer the stability, ease of use, and longevity that a console brings to the table I will be impressed. Bleeding edge performance is not something a solider like me is interested in. The rifle that works is the best rifle, not the rifle that decides just cause it's been a few thousand rounds since it was made that it's time to break down. |

Honestly, thank goodness for the Indie/small-budget scene. Had I not decided to find an alternative to the AAA-razor that goes by the moniker of 'Console' back before the launch of XBONE/PS4, well, with the way things have become in the Gaming industry (and continue to get), I may have likely just dropped gaming as a hobby all together. Over-priced, same-old-same-old, broken, vanilla, dumbed-down, annualised yuck. Sorry if I offend the AAA-lovers out there, but this is how I feel about the modern style of video games (and movies btw). Looks pretty, has no depth, tons of fan service, too easy, and yuck. Catering to the lowest-common denominators and made to be approachable to anyone over the age of six who's never played a video game before. Yuck.
And sure, you can find some indies on the consoles, but certainly not enough of them to make consoles worthwhile to me; and they have nearly none of the indie titles I've enjoyed playing the most since discovering the indie scene on Steam. I think there is a large portion of console gamers out there who, if they had the openness/curiosity to try PC gaming, would find a place that better suits their temperament. No doubt that most of us used to be on the consoles, and many decided to forego consoles, while many others use PCs *and* consoles for gaming now. The consoles are perfect for the mechanics that give FPS/Madden junkies the feels. You know the type: the gamers that play one game a lot, versus gamers who play a lot of games. No offence intended. Generally speaking, those types of gamers aren't the types of people who would embrace PC gaming... it's not really pick-up-and-play; and that type of gaming platform is something that a segment of the gaming audience demands. Unfortunately, that represents, say 30% of the gaming market? But nowadays 80% of games are being developed on the mechanics that satisfy only 30% of the gamers. Squeaky wheels, ya know? Fortunately, those numbers are reverse when analysing the offerings available on the PC gaming platform. That kind of diversity isn't in the cards for consoles in the foreseeable future. |

Yep. Sad but true. Not so much sad about how many console gamers(in general) there are but it's very sad as far as Battlefield is concerend. I was actually going to use this as an example but you beat me to it. Anyways, to me, yes console gaming is dead. i switched over to PC years ago and once you do there's really no going back. Unless you dont have a good PC that is. Wont lie though, i miss playing my consoles sometimes. I just dont ever do it cos iam always playing PC games and have not bought a console since xbox 360 and PS2. I used to buy every console that came out, pretty much. But yeah, console gaming is not dead. As with the example above, i work in a big place and i reckon at least 75% of the gamers there are console. |

I was the same but if you were to get a good beasty PC with a dope GPU and CPU and lots of RAM and an SSD with a good gaming mouse and keyboard, good computer chair, etc and get used to gaming with keyboard and mouse, you'd never go back, trust me! But you need the $$$$$ and i guess it depends what your friends all play on. Or if you just play single player games. When i mostly played JRPG's and fighting games n stuff a console was all i needed. I dont really play either of those anymore. (i mostly play western RPG's and FPS games multi player). |

They are slowly becoming dead to me, because I fell like I am slowly growing out of them. Most of my favorite franchises such as Castlevania are all but dead. The fact that I am more excited for the Mini NES coming out later this year than I am for Nintendo's next console should be a good indication.

Not really..I play console games from time to time and have a relatively high end PC, so I'm not really subjective. They're not dead though, otherwise, you know, they wouldn't continue making them.
