Imagine bots which, when prompted by the player doing something stupid, take to the Internet (Reddit, Twitter, etc.) and complain about them.

A sentient program would need to do something outside of it's normal programing routine. If it was programmed to attack when you shoot at it and it fled instead, then I'll call you mean.

I felt pretty bad killing Undertale's characters and they're far from sentient.
If they're just your average person's level of personality I don't think it would matter much. More about likability.
