The GOP won't disappear necessarily but it'll open up more oppoturnities for people like Trump that share his views to run for office.

Also, Paul Ryan and Reice Pribus might need some new jobs.

Maybe we'll go back to the 19th century days of small parties built around one platform idea, like the Prohibition party, or the Anti-Masonic party--
Or when ABRAHAM LINCOLN! founded the REPUBLICAN PARTY!!...for supporters who wanted to keep the Republic together during the Civil War.

At the national level, if anything yes or at least in everything but name. If he loses the base will become even more radicalized. Those who are against tea party forms are already switching sizes, look how the Neo Cons are supporting Clinton in droves. I wouldn't be surprised if you start seeing people like Jeb Bush switching sides in another election cycle or 2 if Trump loses and the country continues to be more and more divided.

This is a big thing a lot of people are missing when they talk about Trump....all the big republican money is for hillary

the upper echelons of both parties wear the same team colors, people

The republicans party will rise out of this

even if Trump loss the election.. the republicans will win the house.

Project Veritas Action..

these undercover videos showed how corrupt the Democrats are .. and how long they are willing to go for votes..

so this is not just for president but also for the house as well

2/3 of the house can veto the president

i do not want washington being controlled by a political mob boss and also her lackeys in the house as well..

that will be the worst nightmare

vote for Jill Stein or Gary Johnson democrats..

i don't want another war..

It's Russia, China or North Korea.. let's not start WWIII here..

The GOP is really split by like 3-5+ (money, religion, white supremacist, anti-fed, Dixiecrat (confederate remnants), conservative-libertarians, actual conservatives) groups or something anyway. And all of it is the result of the the southern strategy and the passing of the civil rights act (AKA, the betrayal by the Democratic party by passing it). Overall: this is something of their own making, and it wouldn't be surprising if it does self-destruct, IMHO. But, we do honestly need a two party system. Just not one that is stuck so divided and unable to compromise because of radicalized far-_____ ideologies, which will never be that different in their distopias from each other. We need moderates, and maybe being less in denial in the successes of socialist institutions like single-payer and medicaid/medicare. And, not so petty as to try and insure the failure of those policies and the whole government itself to try and prove that the government doesn't work because you made sure that it didn't to prove your point.

It will likely fracture after this I think. It's been internally fractured for a while between the traditional GOP and the fringe Tea Party types. But Trump has pushed that wedge open wider and now that he's actively attacking his own party its not going to get any better. He's been inoculating a cult of personality against reality for months. They will turn on whomever he points at regardless of whether it makes sense or not. And Trump does a lot of pointing.

The GOP has no one to blame but themselves. They courted the fringe for years when it was politically convenient to do so and now they can't stop the monster they created.

If both parties vanish it'll form a power vacuum where two new parties will emerge. Either way, unless both the democrat and republican party become unpopular to the point nobody is supporting either one, I don't see them vanishing.

Since the U.S. government has a winner-take-all election system, the U.S. will have 2 major parties, doesn't mean that a third party can't win, just that two parties will be running the show almost all of the time.

My issue isn't with the two party system (though that is a piece of shit) it was with the how both of the current parties suck.

Right, but I was basically saying that even if both parties vanish you'll get stuck with 2 more parties that will probably end up being as bad as the two we have now.

Just gonna have to jump on the opportunity to elect a new president in 2020 I suppose.

That election isn't looking much better I'm afraid.

The Republicans have an OVERWHELMING control on most state governorships and legislatures; even if the Democrats win nationally they still are loosing locally.

The GOP defeated the white supremacists (supported by the Democrats), kept the spendthrift Obama in check and successfully blocked many of his more radical proposals. Hope they continue to block single payer and the proven failure of socialist policies. And, not so petty as to try and insure the success of those policies and prove that the government works best even though it cost hundreds of times more and you abused the power of government to regulate companies out of business because you made sure that it did to prove your point.
