So, what are some reasons as to why the anime community is so divided? What keeps us separated as a community? Is there anything we can do to change or is it impossible? Tell me what you think.

Enjoy!!!

I feel like it's divided. Because people are constantly bashing and ridiculing each other over which is better or worst.

This is true but not many people think like that.

Perhaps the better question is why people think there should be consensus? One mind, many bodies. All must agree. There can be no deviation. All must submit. All must be part of Consensus. All must be part of the Unity. All must be one. All must be of one mind. One people, one opinion.

Subs vs dubs, fans of fan service vs fans whom are not, fans of lolis and fans whom are not, fans of hentai and anime fans whom are not, etc

Plus i think you have alot of elitists that like anime that think they're smarter than everyone else.
Like the hard core fans that look down on casual fans and i guess alot of anime fans are geeky and alot are not so you can have some divide or conflict there i guess?

I mean it's like anything though really. Even with hip hop you had east vs west lol

Well people can agree to disagree but what I meant is that some people are mostly rude and self-centered about it.

I think the main cause is centered around mainstream ( or the hyped anime of the season). They get most of the attention and while that's not a bad thing I feel many others see gems in the season that they feel are just as good if not better then the hyped shows.

I guess my example would be Steins;Gate. I love the anime but by no means did it get the love when it first aired like it has over the past few years. People are to quick to write something off and often time they miss out on a good show here and there. Some just get invested in these types of shows more then others and they feel the need to stick up for them.

Or it could simply be the fandom, I think its only human nature to push back and when everyone is praising something it's only natural to be skeptic. A lot of the main stream anime are not bad, some just feel they get to much attention or people who don't really watch anime claim its the best anime. Most shows follow they same rhythm once you get to know it. X happens you know Y is about to happen followed by event Z and to the people who have seen it many times before it's obvious. Others do not really notice it and consider it original.

Nothing really breaks my enjoyment more then being able to accurately predict a episode only based on the first 5 mins of the show.

I've found at anime conventions most people seem cool and friendly and there is an overal feeling that we all have the same hobbie so we all can get along but like with everything, you have your groups of insideres that run the thing or all know each other that may not always be so welcoming.
You always get judgmental people with anything as well.

My experience with anime forums for the most part has been very good and that we all get along well and it's an overal friendly environment. There was one local one though where it was not the case at all.
I actually wanted to meet up and smash some of the users lol.

I find all us anime fans at work all get along well and have similar tatses, for the most part. We often discuss anime and recommend animes to each other.

Really it's more the subs vs dubs or the more serious animes vs the more bubble gum and fan servicey pervy ones that i find has some anime fans divided. As i guess i already mentioned

EDIT: and sometimes there is a battle of who's more geeky than the other or something like that lol..or who's not the obssessed anime fan loser. Like some find the more geeky and hard core the better, others almost try to hide their anime fandom out of fear of judgment or reputation.
