By some estimates, Joseph Stalin was responsible for the deaths of 20 million people during his brutal rule, roughly 1 out of 5 citizens. Ivan (the terrible) caused the 1565 formation of the Oprichnina(Secret Police) is also significant. Russia is scary.

the media paints russia as scary, but putin is very likely a reason why there has not been war already.

yea I know right? and when people say Russia is stepping out of line or being "aggressive" yatta yatta over crimea, im like

I'm getting tired of this fear mongering, as well. Aside from 'Russia this' or 'Russia that', another fear mongering tool I'm tired of hearing is that someone, namely the government, will take away our guns. That's ALWAYS a topic a presidential candidate brings up.

the only reason why that hasn't happened yet is because of the 2nd amendment, yes it is just a "old piece of paper" but it is there none the less and if they did something so drastic, very quickly you know people will have a fit

yeah and people dont make the similar stink about usnato forces having helped coup the government of ukraine in 2014 and illegally install a different government in Kiev, then they even try to change the spelling and call it Kyiv, its ridiculous.

people dont even realize that chernobyl is actually in ukraine and the entire reason it melted down was because us & russian rods were incompatible and they stuffed em in there anyway.

the former nomads from the area have a vendetta against the place.

how are people buying it?

Fear mongering worked fabulously well for the government-military-industrial complex during the Cold War obtaining both power and control over the citizenry, why stop using it now? It's a proven application that can yield enormous dividends for power brokers when used persuasively.

worked amazingly well when the patriot act was removed from their back pockets days after 911

Because Obama spied on Putin and got caught being a bad boy, so now he blames Putin for everything.

Because this conversation happened

Clinton Campaign Person 1: All of our dirty secrets about vote rigging, collusion with the media, our candidate clearly stating that she is in Wall Street's Pocket, and discrediting Sanders are coming out.
Clinton Campaign Person 2: Blame somebody for it.
Person 1: Who?
Person 2: Someone bad and scary.
Person 1: Putin? He is kind of scary and Russian and a lot of older white people have memories about Russians being the bad guys.
Person 2: Good for me.

Person 1 to Media: The release of this information is an evil conspiracy by Putin.
Media: Well you don't have any evidence and if this information is true it reveals a major plot to undermine our democracy and really should be researched, but Trump is a Republican so that is enough evidence for us.

Has it occurred to you that maybe - just maybe - they're being led by a maniac?

Because, you know, that might be relevant.
