Back then i disliked unserious anime. You know. gigantic candy eyeballs etc.

Also there seem to be some psychological factor with a slash of drama in some series like Rurouni Kenshin, but then there are also anime that tear jerks it way too much just for the sake of it.

Either way stuff like social darwinism with Sojiro "To be kill or be killed, weak or strong" just to mention some examples.

I am just curious how you define good or bad anime. But then again its very subjective for some people.
In my definition it has to be figurines or pillow worship or some stuff. Its hard to describe but if it comes to the point where you start to worship the characters rather than paying interest to the show it is about, that is how i usually define as bad in some cases. My Little Pony is one example where people seem to worship ponies in some cases, and i used to be a part of it. I still watch it but i realise that its just purely wrong, although ponies is in definition harmless but i will say its much better than being a furry. Furries creeps me out mostly and are furry hairy and messed up in most cases i feel. Stuff like hentai is something i avoid but its not on the level that furries are on from my experience.

There's too much personal preference in this sort of thing, but some things that may make people consider an anime bad are:

Bad animation
Poor pacing
Flat characters
Poor writing

But if the show at least amuses people, you can get away with a lot of that. Being boring is probably the one guaranteed way to lose people. And what boring is depends very much on individual taste.

That all depends on whether you mean anime that is of poor quality or anime that isn't entertaining.

There's no way to really define what bad anime is, mostly because it is so subjective. The type of shows I try to avoid the most are ones where all the characters and plot are clearly retreads of something that has been done before.
The closest an anime can come to being objectively bad is when it has awful production values, i.e. characters going off model a lot and slideshow levels of animation. Even then, some quality shows have had their production collapse.

There is no good or bad anime when you think about it:

One person might like one series while another deems it trash.
