Here are more of the findings:

6% of meat burgers were identified as problematic with substitution, hygienic issues, and pathogenic contamination

1 sample tested positive for human DNA

3 samples tested positive for rat DNA

46% of samples contained more calories than reported on labels or in menus

49% of samples contained more carbohydrates than reported

In one black bean burger, there were no black beans

In 2 cases, meat was found in vegetarian products
The lab results come from 258 samples of ground meat, frozen patties, fast-food burger products and veggie burger products from 79 brands and 22 retailers.

pshaw, "pathogenic contamination" only means that those burgers boost your immune system.

File under "slow news day."

"We tested 258 burgers. 243 of them were fine. Half of them had more than the 'average' calorie or carbohydrate content listed on the menu, as would be statistically expected in any sample. Meanwhile, five burgers had some minor anomaly we could paint as shocking and awful!"

Anyone read the actual report?

"Based on our results, we found issues in food safety, product quality, and end-product consistency to be pervasive among vegetarian samples. Of the 89 vegetarian products we sampled, 23.6% were problematic compared to a problematic rate of just 13.6% for the total 258 samples. "

Figures. It's been pretty well known for a while now that rats and mice manage to contaminate most anything that's mass-produced. That "black bean burger" rip-off, though... This is when I imagine that suing is fairly appropriate.

The DNA was probably just a hair or something... don't panic. Besides, anyone would eat a rat if they were hungry enough.

I've ate squirrel. Will do so again, if I have the chance to go to a squirrel fry.

My stepfather will not allow me to borrow his pellet gun to silently hunt these squirrel in the city limits. It's a shame, they're fat and lazy. Easy pickin's.

I mean squirrel's pretty darned close to rat.

Both rodents. Never understood why one is supposed to be cute and the other gross.

*Shrug* No idea. They are both just animals to me. Of course, I feel like the fear with rats is that they eat food that is left out (or just chew through packaging, because they DGAF). SO, though both can technically carry the bubonic plague, the danger is larger with rats.

But, hey, they world could use a little "Black Death" these days, if you ask me.

Squirrels have short noses and fluffy furry tails. Rats have long noses and scaly bald tails.

The science of cute is actually pretty well understood.

I'm seriously more troubled by the black bean burger that has no black beans than by a little bit of rat dna.
