Seriously, stop making toxic threads. It's gotten to the point where I feel the need to tell people to stay away from GD because its a dumpster fire. A lot of us are tired of Trump Trump Hillary Hillary Race wars Religion all the time.

I miss the days of PV threads and the general lightheartedness of GD. Those threads actually provoked nice diacussion instead of flame wars.

I agree, but not for the exact same reason. I'm fine with political threads. In fact, I like political threads. However, lately I've somewhat had to change my way of handling threads because it no longer seems like a good environment for debate. The conversations are too volatile and lack focus and you can see how threads don't explore information, its more that people just say something inflammatory and move on. Moreso, there is very little respectful discourse. There is a tone in the discussion recently of dismissal and anger.

So yeah, GD has become a dumpster fire, but not because of the topics that are being posted (although those topics are largely a symptom). It is because of how things are being discussed. I think a lot of this comes down to the end of this political cycle, but also partially to the new users who have started posting around here and contributing to this change in atmosphere.

I hope I haven't said anything untoward, but that is what I have been thinking lately.

I'm also hoping things will settle down a bit after the election is over and people get used to the idea that the world hasn't ended.

That "Are you a polite and considerate person?" topic does look especially toxic though. Someone ought to report that qualeshia3 person for inciting courtesy.

you should join Anime News Network

They are pretty much the opposite of this forums. It might be a better place for you.

They censored a lot of things on ANN though.. down to diffrent in opinion over a movie/series or a product..

I just post in threads that interested me .. there's no need to click on every single thread or get annoyed by it..

Well what can you do, it'll probably die down once the elections are done...maybe.

This would mostly go away if we had a special forum only for Premium members.

I don't know. I kind of like how it is. And I don't recall PV threads ever provoking discussion we aren't already seeing in the political threads.

Honestly you just have to be the better man and put your points out there politely and calmly, while of course making sure that they are solidly founded and well informed. If the other guys want to attack you for the things you post, even when they are based heavily in fact, then there is only one thing left to do: sit back, and laugh your ass off.

GD has become what the election cycle has become. A dumpster fire of anger, yelling, racism, conspiracy theories, blind idolization and perpetual denial where reason itself goes to die.

And yes, the light of that dumpster fire seems to have attracted a wide variety of bugs.

Here's to hoping things settle after the election is over. Won't hold my breath, though. Clickbait outrage threads have been around for awhile now, and just focused more narrowly on the election recently.

I am starting to change my mind about the need for a politics forum, though. Might help to contain the dumbster fire in a centralized area outside of GD.

The political threads are a fucking disaster.
It's either about Trump being a racist sex offender or Hillary being a corrupt lying cheat.
I also wish for the days when we talked about waifus and Japanese pop culture
