Plot Summary

The fantasy action light novel series takes place on a continent ruled by chaos. The chaos breeds disaster, but the Lords of the continent have the power of "Crest" (a Mark of the Saint) that can calm the chaos and protect the people. However, one day the rulers throw away their creed of purifying the chaos, and instead start to fight each other for each others' Crests and to gain dominion over one another. The novels center on Silka, an isolated mage who scorns the Lords for abandoning their creed, and a wandering knight named Theo, who is on a journey to train to one day liberate his hometown, which is under tyrannical rule. Silka and Theo make an everlasting oath to each other as master and servant, and work together to reform this continent dominated by wars and chaos.

A stage event at the "Fantasia Bunko Daikanshasai" event on Saturday announced that author Ryo Mizuno and illustrator Miyuu's Record of Grancrest War (Grancrest Senki) light novel series is getting an anime adaptation. A producer from Aniplex came on stage to discuss the new project.

It is by the same guy who wrote RLW, Ryo Mizuno, so the title is no coincidence. It should be great to see what this show brings to the table seeing that it has been quilte a long time since one of his works got adapted.

Oh, if it's nearly as good as Record of Lodoss War, then it's worth looking into.

Seeing that Aniplex is one of the producers that it makes a lot of sense that A-1 is doing the animation.

A-1 is usually a hit or miss studio. On one hand, we have shows like Magi, The Seven Deadly Sins, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, and Blue Exorcist, but on the other hand we have shows like The Asterisk Wars, the second season of Black Butler, Sword Art Online (debatable but I feel it is mediocre), and Gate (debatable but I feel it is mediocre). My point is that this could be really good or really bad. You never really know with A-1.

I noticed the similarity of the shows name with Record of Lodoss War. While I understand that both shows are based off works of the same light novel author, I am still confused. Do you need to watch Record of Lodoss War before you watch Record of Grancrest War?

these are all adaptations, and the problems with that is, if you have an issue with the anime, you would have an issue with the source material. you also fail to mention any of the shows that have any real issues with them like Qualidea Code, Granblue, Nanoha ViVid... or original shows done by A-1 such as Galilei Donna and Zvezda,
